This is the picture from which we had to draw inspiration for our challenge.
I am thrilled to be part of the Inspiring Inkin’ Design Team and this is my card for Challenge #2 today.
“Try something new that you have not yet used” – I’ve never made a 6″ x 6″ card before, so I took a piece of 12″ x 6″ textured Bashful Blue card stock, folded it in half to form a 6″ square card. I then scored a grid at 2″ and 4″ on front of card only, rotated it 90 degrees clockwise and repeated process.
I cut 5 x 1 3/4″ squares of Ruby Red, 4 x 1 3/4″ Sage Green squares and using the pricking tool and mat, pricked holes all round each square to faux stitch with a white gel pen. I then stamped the Ruby Red squares with images from Doodle That in versamark, sprinkled with white embossing powder and embossed with heat tool and then distressed all the edges of the squares. I punched out 4 sets of flowers from the trio flower punch in Bashful Blue and attached these to the Sage Green squares with Rose Red brads. The Ruby Red stamped images were raised with dimensionals, except for the centre one which the folded tag flower was attached to. The Sage Green squares were adhered flush with the card.
Drawing inspiration from the quilt and the stocking hanging at the end of the bed, I thought it would be nice to finish the card with a card insert secured with some silver elastic cord and a couple of hearts suspended from the top of the card. The hearts were made from finding the centre point of the scallop circle and cutting two scallops from outside edge to centre point on both sides.
This is a close up of the folded tag flower. I mimicked the quilting technique, translated it into paper form by punching out several tags and then folding it and adhering them together to resemble a flower which I used as the central focal point of the “patchwork” square using the retired Cutie Pie DSP. In order to tie in all the colours, I layered a textured Bashful Blue Scalloped circle, 1 3/8″ Sage Green circle, stamped “happy birthday” sentiment from Wow Flowers set in Ruby Red on Whisper White and punched that out with 1″ circle and embellished with a red gingham knot.
On the card insert I stamped a heart image in the bottom left hand corner of the inside page, and on the opposite page, I centred and stamped “birthday wishes” from the Wow Flowers stamp set and used a partially stamped image of the Doodle That set in Ruby Red.
It sounds more complicated than it really is but having decided on the design, it only took me 15 minutes from start to finish and I really enjoyed doing it.
Great card Elaine. Looks like you had fun at your technique club.
