Inspiring Inkin’ Challenge # 29 Technique Emboss Resist

Goodness, how time flies – it’s already a fortnight since the last Inspiring Inkin’ Challenge. This fortnight’s challenge is a Technique based one emboss resist with the side twist of using a punch or punches somewhere on the card. I chose to make a recessed card – so basically stamped a “scene” using the floral images from Pocket Silhouettes for the “grasses” and the toucan from My Sweet Pea as the subject and matted it to fit in the recess which makes it look as though the “scene” has been framed. To emboss resist, images were stamped first in versamark, embossing powder was sprinkled over it, and a heat tool used to emboss it. The embossing resists ink, or any other medium of colour you apply to it. I used sponge daubers to apply each colour, working with the lightest colour first, then applying gradually darker ones but covering narrower bands of card with each application to create the effect as shown above so that there is a graduation of colour from dark to light. I used Stampin’ Up!’s two-step bird punch to punch out the branches to fit the brief and am pleased with the result. The frame was made with co-ordinating DSP from the Sweet Pea stack which I mounted on Pumpkin Pie. In order to make the frame, I measured an inch in all round and cut out the centre. The finished card measures 5 1/4″ square, so the mats were decreased in size by 1/4″ each time. This is the inside of the card. As you can see, I’ve used the left over centre of the frame to cover the back of the recess. To finish the card, I matted a piece of Whisper White on Pumpkin Pie, and added more layers using the eyelet border punch to decorate the bottom edge of the Pumpkin Pie strip.
