Some of my club ladies requested I show them how to make flowers that would be suitable to use on scrapbooking pages for their next class. So in the month of June, the theme was making flowers using punches. I’m not sure if anyone else has come up with this idea, it happened quite by accident. The label halves got stuck together on my messy desk, and it looked like it could be shaped into a flower – and so this was born. I punched 3 decorative labels and cut them in half on the long side. You need 5 halves to make up the petals. I eyeballed the centre point opposite the pointed tip of the decorative lable and made diagonal cuts on either side of this point from the curly decorative label side toward the straight half cut side. This leaves a narrow base approximately 1/2″ wide. With the aid of a piercing tool almost horizontal against a foam mat, I lightly scored from each curly point on label to the narrower base. The outer edges were sponged with Daffodil Delight, and the centres were sponged with Melon Mambo. For the leaves, I punched a whole ornament in Wild Wasabi, and on the second punched piece, I fed it back into the ornament punch and punched again to create a smaller leaf. Both these were scored to create the veins on the leaf and sponged in Wild Wasabi to make the score lines “pop”. A 1/2″ circle in Melon Mambo was punched out to make card candy to the centre of the flower and to finish the flower, random dots were made with a Melon Mambo marker. The rest of the card needs no explanation. I kept the design simple so as to make the flower a focal point. The card base is Early Espresso, and the mat is Very Vanilla.
