I recently taught the Salted Background technique to my club ladies. I used Shimmery White card stock and spritzed it with water until it was quite damp. I added colour with an aqua painter in random directions using my ink pads as palettes to pick up colour. After that I sprinkled with a coarse salt as well as table salt to give this interesting background. The one on the left easel I stamped a Summer Silhouette image in versamark before applying the colour. You spritz again after you’ve added the salt and leave it for a few minutes to allow the salt to melt. This forms interesting patterns on your cardstock. You can use a heat tool to speed up the drying process. Brush the salt off and it will leave interesting patterns. No two cards wiill be the same.
This technique really lent itself to a marine theme – so By The Tide stamps were just perfect! I love how the shimmery white card stock sparkles. Unfortunately the picture doesn’t do it justice.
By the Tide was in our summer catalogue but has been carried over to the Annual Catalogue! You’ll find this stamp set on page 77 of the annual catalogue.
