Did you know that today is Chinese New Year? I am 3rd Generation Australian Chinese, and although I’m married to an Englishman, those Chinese roots from my ethnic origin are still with me albeit very westernised!
Of course, Stampin’ Up! doesn’t have a sentiment to cover Chinese New Year, so I printed one off the internet – Kung Hei Fatt Choi translated means “Happy New Year” well, literally translated it means “wishing you much prosperity and luck”.
The stamp set is new in the Spring/Summer 2014 catalogue called Happy Congratulations. I scored some scrap Coastal Cabana cardstock every 1/8″ then punched it out with the Artisan Label punch to create the Chinese Lanterns. The top and bottom of the lanterns have been punched and trimmed with the same punch in brushed gold card stock.
Our fabulous new gold sequin trim was just perfect to “hang” the lanterns from. Red is an auspicious colour for the Chinese, so my card base had to be Real Red. The Basic Black mat was stamped in Whisper White Craft Ink with our new Hardwood background stamp. The inks I used are Black Stazon, Real Red, and Gold Metallic Encore ink.
This Chinese New Year is the Year of the Horse. I don’t have a horsey stamp, so the lanterns will have to do, but I’m pleased with the final result. What do you think?
