Do you have trouble making masculine cards? I’m a firm believer that sometimes less is more – but first a little background on where the inspiration for this card came about. We’ve been watching a TV series called “This Wild Life” which documents the trials and tribulations of running a safari camp that the wildlife expert and environmentalist, Saba Douglas-Hamilton faces on a daily basis. She and her husband Frank, a conservationist, and their three children moved to the romantic Samburu National Reserve where she runs a tented luxury campsite and scenes of the animals in the wild in their natural habitat re-kindled our desire to go on safari one day. My hubby spent a stint with the VSO in Zambia not long after he graduated as a Civil Engineer, and had the opportunity to holiday in Tanzania and Kenya. He’s stayed at Treetops, visited Ngorongoro and been to the Serengeti Plains. Whilst out there, he always said he had the highest quality of life there before he acquired a wife and family! He has hankered going back one day so I could experience first hand the wonders of an African Safari too. On further investigation, I gasped at just how expensive safari trips are, particularly if they’re tailor made for your enjoyment! He’s just had a special birthday and he can hang up his work hat – so I made him this card. Stampin’ Up!’s Go Wild Designer Paper series stack had this giraffe pattern and fitted the brief. A simple “Man” card, no extras – no buttons, bows or frills, just some simple stamping and….
…..sadly, this is the closest he’s going to get to go on safari for the time being 😉 ! Another destination to put on our bucket list!
Here’s the inside – I used the Alphabet rotary stamp to customise my sentiments. A one layer card without any frills. The Happy Birthday Everyone stamp set is a hostess set and you can only obtain it through Hostess credits which you can earn through hosting a party.
