Toile Christmas – Fun Fold

Do you know the origin of “toile”?  It’s a fabric  from a French word meaning “linen cloth” or canvas. Toile de jouy fabric originated in France in the 1760s and usually depicted pastoral scenes.  Today it comes in many different patterns and colours.  Stampin’ Up! have brought out their own patterns in the form of Toile Tidings DSP in Garden Green and Real Red to go with their new Toile Christmas Bundle.

Today’s card is the result of much trial and error.    I’ve made the mistakes so you don’t have to – not to mention the amount of card stock I went through and the DSP I wasted in the process!  There is a lot of cutting, so I’ve included a cutting guide in this post.

Aside from the card base, you’ll need extra Very Vanilla card stock for stamping the banner and fussy cutting it for the front of the card, and some Gold Foil for the banner mat layer and leaves.

Imperial measurements

Card Base:  Very Vanilla Thick – 11-3/4″ x 5-7/8″ (half A4 sheet) folded in half

Card Front:

• Garden Green 4-1/2″ x 3-3/4″.  Long side on top, mark 1-1/4″.  Rotate card stock 180 degrees and mark opposite side at 1-1/4″.  Draw a line between these two marks and cut diagonally along that line.
• Toile Tidings DSP  Cut 2 strips 4-1/8″ x 1-11/16″.  Trim as shown in video.

Card Insert:

• Garden Green 8″ x 5-1/2″.  Long side on top, score at 2″, 4″ 6″. Short Side on top, mark 1-3/4″ and cut from this mark diagonally to bottom right corner.  Ensure it’s on point, as accuracy is key.
• Cut 1 x Very Vanilla Standard card stock 1-3/4″ x 5-1/4″
• Cut 1 x Toile Tiding DSP 4-1/4″ x 1-3/4″
• Cut 1 x Toile Tiding DSP 3-3/8″ x 1-3/4″
• Cut 1 x Toile Tiding DSP 2-3/8″ x 1-3/4″

Sentiment for inside card:

• Garden Green 2-1/4″ x 1-5/8″
• Cut 1 x 2″ x 1- 3/8″ Very Vanilla card stock standard

Metric Measurements

Card Base:  Very Vanilla Thick – 29.8 cm x  14.9 cm (half A4 sheet) folded in half

Card Front:

• Garden Green 11.4 cm x 9.5 cm.  Long side on top, mark 3.2 cm.  Rotate card stock 180 degrees and mark opposite side at 3.2 cm.  Draw a line between these two marks and cut diagonally along that line.
• Toile Tidings DSP  Cut 2 strips 10.5 cm x 4.3 cm.  Trim as shown in video.

Card Insert:

• Garden Green 20.3 cm  x 14 cm.  Long side on top, score at 5 cm, 10.2 cm,  15.2 cm. Short Side on top, mark 4.4 cm and cut from this mark diagonally to bottom right corner.  Ensure it’s on point, as accuracy is key.
• Cut 1 x Very Vanilla Standard card stock 4.4 cm x 13.3 cm
• Cut 1 x Toile Tiding DSP 10.8 cm x 4.4 cm
• Cut 1 x Toile Tiding DSP 8.6 cm x 4.4 cm (may require a tad of adjusting)
• Cut 1 x Toile Tiding DSP 6 cm x 4.4 cm

Sentiment for inside card:

• Garden Green 5.7 cm x 4.1 cm
• Cut 1 x 5 cm x 3.5 cm Very Vanilla card stock standard
