Celebrate Sunflowers with vellum

I never thought I would say this, especially since lock down in March, the days seemed to drag. Now that public houses and non-essential shops are allowed to trade once more I pray that caution at some social distancing and vigilance with hand washing will still prevail. We’re certainly not out of the woods yet. With some form of normality, Sundays seem to roll around at an alarming rate! It’s probably down to the new catalogue and having lots of new toys to play with and not enough hours in the day!!!

It was difficult to put this stamp set down, once I started playing! The sunflower was stamped 3 times in Tuxedo Black Memento ink. I googled sunflowers and found that not all sunflowers have brown centres. Some are Granny Apple green, with yellow flecks in the middle. Not all are yellow throughout, but partially Cajun craze radiating out to yellow.

My card base was Thick Whisper White. The visual rule of odd numbers prevailing, I partially stamped 2 sunflowers on the front of the card base and overlaid it with a piece of vellum also cut the same size as the base. Adding the vellum layer meant I could then put the third sunflower on it to fulfill the brief.

I coloured in the first sunflower with the first layer of petals, and fussy cut this, omitting alternate petals. I applied adhesive only to the base of the flower centre and adhered it to the centre of the second sunflower. This gave me a guide as to which petals to colour on the second sunflower, and which petals to omit. It made fussy cutting the second layer easier as you could physically see it come together.

For the third sunflower, I used the die to cut out the entire flower and repeated the process. The other 2 layers were adhered to the centre of the largest layer. The previous layers help you to establish which petals to colour, and which to omit as they won’t be seen. This conserves ink in your blender pens!

To allow more “freedom” of movement, I also cut into some of the petals in this layer. Hope you like it!
