Whale Done – fancy fold

Hello! Happy Sunday!

I thought I’d share a fun fold card using a stamp set called “Whale Done” which has a coordinating punch. It also has a gorgeous Seabed 3D embossing folder and it’s ideal for creating a lovely ocean scene!

The closest I can get to an ocean is through my imagination. A reminder when we visited the aquarium at Monteray Bay on an RV trip across America. The wonders of the sea are a sight to behold. It’s difficult to recreate its beauty, but Stampin’ Up! has managed to incorporate elements of it in this Suite!

Front of Card

Looks like a normal card from the front, doesn’t it? I stamped the seaweed, coral and shoal of fishes before embossing it with the new Seabed 3D embossing folder.

Inside of Card

Open it up and it reveals that there’s an inverted “W” section which joins the card front to the card back. The card has several layers to accommodate strategic cutting of a 6″x 6″ piece of DSP into quarters so I could make the paper stretch further! The maximum height was 3″ (7.6 cm) so I kept the height, and adjusted the width of each panel to keep “waste” to a minimum on the DSP.

The size of the panel was governed by the length of an A4 sheet which is 11-3/4″ in Europe. Rather than score, I folded it in half. Then I folded each half in half again to create the 4 panels. So, the overall size of this piece is 11-3/4″ x 3-1/2″ (29.8 cm x 8.9 cm). Each layer was 1/8″ smaller all round.

Turtles were stamped in Blackberry Bliss and fussy cut, as were the Seahorses which had been stamped in Pacific Point.

To conserve my DSP, I used plain card stock in Granny Apple Green – 2 pieces cut at 5-1/2″ x 3-3/4″ (14 cm x 9.5 cm) and embossed this with the Seabed 3D embossing folder.

Back of card

Some simple stamping on the back of the card with the shoal of fishes in Pool Party and the sentiment in Pacific Point.

To complete the scene, I stamped the larger seaweed image and fussy cut it from Whisper White cardstock. The whale was stamped in Basic Gray and punched out with the Whale Punch and adhered behind the seaweed.

I didn’t emboss this layer as it’s easier to pen a few words on a flat surface rather than a “bumpy” one!

It’s hard to believe that it’s almost six months since lockdown in March. What a year 2020 has been. The new Academic Year begins this month. I’m so glad for parents who have school age children. I expect both parents and their children will be pleased to see a return to some kind of normality in September (even if restrictions are in place to protect the children and staff from contracting the virus). Speaking to my grandsons, they were looking forward to seeing their friends again.
