I thought I’d try my hand at making a Hexagonal Pinwheel Elegantly Said card. The hexagonal pinwheel isn’t as complicated as it looks. The Elegantly Said bundle has been sitting in my “in-tray” for far too long and it was time to give it an airing. What took the time was working out the measurements. It fits into a 6″x 6″ envelop which Stampin’ Up! do not supply.
Many years ago, Stampin’ Up! used to carry an envelop punch board and it has since retired. It’s the sort of tool one would hang on to even if it’s no longer a stock item in Stampin’ Up!’s arsenal. I didn’t want to go to the expense of ordering a bunch of 6″ square envelops, so for an occasional 5-3/4″ x 5-3/4″ card you can make your own with the envelop punch board. If you have one, you need a piece of card stock 9-1/2″ square and you score at 4-3/4″. I used Basic White 12″ x 12″ sheet of card stock to make mine.
The formula is to make a 6 side column – Width x Height plus an overlap tab. You cut and adhere 6 identical pieces of card stock to each side of the column. When you view it from the top, you can see the hexagonal pinwheel. It folds flat (bottom left picture) to fit in a 6″ x 6″ envelop.
Watch out for another tutorial, this time with only 4 sides next week. I’ve been bitten by the pinwheel bug! In the meantime, check out this week’s video tutorial on how to make the hexagonal one.
Visuals are so much more intuitive, so press play!
