Oooh – a triple fancy fold card with Wild Cats to share with you this Sunday! Hope you’re well and settling back to as “normal” as possible a routine pre-pandemic. Despite the woes of the world, I hope you’re in good spirits and are staying safe and healthy.
Some time ago, I shared a video on a triple easel card using the Wild Cats bundle. If you missed it you can see it HERE. I held one of the cards back for today’s blog post and I think it’s my favourite out of all the samples I made.
I had to create a belly band in order to keep it closed as it had a lot of layers.
More often than not, my “go to” and most used set of dies are the “Stitched So Sweetly” dies. There are six nested stitched scalloped rectangles and four fancy shaped ones perfect for making labels like the one above. The tiger was fussy cut from the patterned papers in the Suite and you’d never know that the back end of his body is missing! This tiger was at the edge of the paper. Rather than waste it, you can use a partial image by covering it up with foliage like I’ve done here.
Working out where to score
If you’re wondering how I worked out where I should score my card stock to create this type of fold here’s the basics. At my ripe old age, even my schoolgirl Math hasn’t deserted me! It makes sense now why it was compulsory to go to school. You need the rudiments of being numerate to navigate through life!
First you need to establish the width of the card. You want this to be a whole number eg, 4″ so let’s call this number “b”. The third fold should be a fraction less than “b” so it folds nicely, so let’s call this “c”, and what’s left is “d”. Now decide how wide you want your first panel to be – this is “a”. The overall length of your card stock is 11-3/4″.
- a+b+c+d = 11-3/4″
- b = 4″
- c < 4 = 3-7/8″
- a+4″+3-7/8″ + d = 11-3/4″
- If “a” is 1-1/2″ then 1-1/2″+4″+3-7/8″ + d = 11-3/4″
- a+b+c = 9-3/8″, so to find “d” , 11-3/4 – 9-3/8″ = d
- d is therefore 2-3/8″
Yay! Now you’ve established where you should score your card stock. Long side on top, score at 1-1/2″, 5-1/2″, 9-3/8″.
Mat Layers
Each mat layer was 1/8″ smaller than the previous mat layer. You can also see how I’d put partial images of the tigers to good use. Both these were on the edge of the patterned papers, too good to discard, so I fussy cut them and incorporated it into the inside of my card.
