Diagonal Gate fold Valentine card

Today I have a diagonal gate fold Valentine card which is deceptively easy to make but looks ever so complicated! I made this type of gate fold so many years ago, you can see it HERE way back in November 2016!!! Well, they say time flies when you’re having fun!!! These days it’s also called a twisted gate fold.

In the early days when I started blogging, I didn’t include instructions on how to make it. The post just had a photo and the supplies I used. So I had to go back to the drawing board and created it from scratch in different sizes. Through trial and error I created one which would fit into a C6 envelop!

When the card is opened flat, you can see that some of the panels have been cut diagonally and adhered to the card base. I would recommend that you cut pieces of paper after you’ve scored your card base so that you can check which direction you should cut each diagonal.

Bouquet of Love heart die

I also cut extra stitched hearts from the Bouquet of Love Hybrid embossing folder dies so I could stack and adhere the hearts on top of one another for added strength. It’s also recommended that you use adhesive sheets on the plain Coastal Cabana and Blushing Bride card stock before you die cut the hearts to make it easier to adhere together.

The heart on top has been cut from the Subtles shimmer specialty paper. There are 4 hearts altogether in each stack as follows:

  1. Top heart – shimmer paper
  2. 2nd and 3rd layer – plain card stock with adhesive sheet backing
  3. 4th layer – plain card stock without adhesive sheet backing

Once the hearts have been stacked and adhered together, I partially adhered each heart on their respective panels so that they would interlock when you close the card.

Video Tutorial

By the way, in the video, I used a different stamp set for the Valentine greeting because the one from Sweet Conversations was missing. I had to pause filming to look for it. It’s one of my pet peeves losing a stamp! Have you ever been in that situation? So rather than wasting more time looking, I used a different sentiment.
