Intrigued by the Centre step easel card with Oceanfront stamps? To be honest, I didn’t know what else to call it! The card is a combination of a step card, but requires a “stopper” on the front so it’s an easel card too!
It’s designed to fold flat so that it will fit into a C6 envelop. The Horizon Dies have two different sized fence dies. In the design process, I had a light bulb moment and thought it would be great to use those fences as a gateway to the ocean beyond.
Adhesive sheets are a Godsend! I wanted to give those fences extra strength, so I die cut several out of Basic White with an adhesive sheet behind it. The top one can be stamped with the wood grain image from On the Horizon or an alternative would be to run the fences through an embossing folder.
Card opened out
This is what the card looks like when opened out. I used several stamp sets, marrying old with new. Remember Friends Are like Seashells? I just stamped smaller shell images and fussy cut them to embellish the bottom of the card.
Both the stopper mechanism and the bottom of the card used one of the beach stamps from Oceanfront for a sandy beach effect and then I added the pebbles on the stopper. When you stand the easel step portion of the card, the pebbles appear at the bottom of the fence. Neat, huh?
Card closed for mailing
On the reverse side of the card base there is some simple stamping and a hint of blending. I figured as it’s the bottom of the card why waste patterned paper to decorate it? Besides it would mean adding more bulk! The card base uses the 12″ x 12″ (30.5 x 30.5 cm) Basic White papers. There are 12 sheets in a pack, and you can make 2 cards out of each sheet with this design. Being Basic White, it’s suitable for stamping anyway, so why not?
Full length of card
Here is the card fully extended. Basic White isn’t as heavy duty as coloured card stock, but that isn’t an issue because when you start adding mat layers, it will strengthen the card.
