This month’s Tech 4 Stampers blog hop theme is for a Springtime card. I thought I’d combine something new with something old. My new item is the Basics 3D embossing folders which is an Online Exclusive product. The old is a stamp set from the current Annual Catalogue called “Lovely You cling stamp set” which you can find on page 63. There is a Lovely Labels Pick a Punch which coordinates with it.
I wondered what to choose for a Springtime theme. Spring is for new beginnings as new growth in the garden springs to life. Trees start to bear leaves and the daffodils are in full bloom, so I thought I’d choose a floral stamp set and use a pastel colour palette.
The Lovely You Cling stamps are ideal for using to make your own patterned paper. I stamped the images randomly on a 6″ x 6″ piece of Basic White card stock, and then cut them up in various shapes to make several springtime cards with different layouts. It’s one way of making a little go a lot further. We call this “technique” a One Sheet Wonder.
The Tech 4 Stampers is a monthly subscription group run by Louise Sims. She mentors and enables members to understand IT jargon and equips them with a fountain of Technical knowledge to build or manage their own websites. It takes the mystery out of “tech” and I’ve certainly grown in confidence thanks to her expertise, patience and guidance. Not only that, I’ve met and made new friends with my fellow “Techs” and love the camaraderie within the group.
Online exclusives
Stampin’ Up! has recently introduced a program called Online Exclusives which are new products, or returning products which is available online only. You won’t find them in any of the current catalogues.
I acquired the Basics 3D embossing folders and am pleased to say that the 2″ and 1 ¾” circle punch is a returning product and is also available currently online under this category. I had intended to use the circle punches which I kept after it was retired, but the circles were too small. Consequently I used the Layering Circles dies instead. Another die set I used are the Something Fancy dies.
One Sheet Wonder
I created my own Designer Series Paper by stamping the various images from Lovely You stamp set using Mint Macaron, Pool Party, Petal Pink, So Saffron and Highland Heather ink pads. The overall size of the One Sheet Wonder in Imperial is 6″ x 6″ (15.2 cm x 15.2 cm). Here’s how I cut up the card stock to make 5 notecards with the pre-scored Basic White Notecards & Envelops pack. They contain 20 note cards and 20 envelops which is terrific value.
The Cards
All the cards are clean and simple. Most of them had a Petal Pink Mat layer cut at 3 ¼” x 4 ¾” (8 cm x 12 cm).
- For the first card I used the Layering Circles Dies and the Lovely Labels Pick a Punch.
- In the second card, the DSP was adhered with dimensionals to look like floating panels.
- Both the third and fourth card used the Something Fancy dies to create the labels.
- For the fifth card, I cut a Petal Pink mat layer ⅛” larger @ 1 ⅝” x 3 ⅛” (4.1 cm x 7.9 cm)
Card 4
I feel this card needed a little more explanation so it’s under a heading of its own. This is the card which was embossed with the polka dot 3D embossing folder.
- I trimmed off the bottom bit of the triangle to create a pocket for the tag.
- In order to create the pocket, it was only adhered on three sides.
- The left over piece was used to embellish the smaller Something Fancy Basic White tag. The set of dies also includes dies to die cut the tulip detail.
- I die cut a larger 2nd tag with the Something Fancy dies in Mint Macaron so that it would make the Basic White tag “pop”.
