Happy Valentine’s Day! I’ve often wondered how Valentine’s Day came to be celebrated. For decades, I thought it had a romantic connotation.
Here’s a little factoid. Apparently Valentine’s Day did not come to be celebrated as a day of romance until circa 14th century. There have been several Christian martyrs named Valentine. However, the day may have taken its moniker from a priest martyred around 270 CE (common or current era) by Emperor Claudius II Gothicus. Gosh – that’s beyond ancient, isn’t it?
In the modern day, it’s simply another commercial opportunity to celebrate a loved one. It wasn’t until recently that I discovered from my American friends across the pond, you can send it to anyone to show your appreciation for each other – it need not necessarily be confined to your sweetheart. However, I did make this one for mine.
Inside card
Not sure if I should’ve stamped the honeycomb effect, what do you think? It’s done now, so I’ll have to leave it!
