Paper piecing – Umbrella Days. Paper piecing is a simple technique whereby you stamp an image on patterned paper and fussy cut it. You can then adhere it to an identical stamped image with the same profile, i.e, dressing the image. Simple and effective – like dressing paper dolls in days of yore.

Card details

This card uses a combination of paper piecing, colouring and die cutting. I clear embossed the rain drops simply by picking up ink from the Versamark ink pad then picking up Lost Lagoon Ink before stamping on the project. Sprinkle with CLEAR embossing powder, heat set and voila – glossy rain drops! It’s a pity that the photo doesn’t show it.

The clouds have a slight Smoky Slate hue and the puddles have a Lost Lagoon both achieved by using Blending Brushes with a light touch.

Incidentally, there is a die which cuts out the panels of the umbrella separately so that you can adhere each section of the umbrella on the stamped image.

Inside card

The same principle applies to the cute dog and little person. Remember to fussy cut around the sleeves to expose the hands. All the images were stamped in Tuxedo Black Memento ink including the ones for paper piecing and fussy cutting.

Inks used

I used Stampin’ Blends for colouring the dog in Pecan Pie, the umbrella and wellies in Old Olive, the trousers in Crumb Cake, and hands in Petal Pink.

What do you think? Isn’t it adorable that the dog has its own “raincoat” and that his “mac” matches his owner’s too.
