Paper Piecing Technique. New July 25 online exclusive with Long Time No See, a stand alone Photopolymer stamp set. It features an adorable Dachshund and a cute Llama with stamps to stretch the sweater/scarf. It is an ideal set for the paper piecing technique.

Paper Piecing Technique

Paper piecing is stamping on patterned paper to create a portion of a stamped image to add colour and dimension to your project. You fussy cut along the contour of the image, then adhere it to the corresponding stamped image on your project.

Stamp desired portion of image on patterned paper

1. Partially stamp the neck of llama with Tuxedo Black Memento ink on DSP 3 times. Ensure you leave sufficient room to stamp the short scarf image below.
2. Align and stamp short scarf image in Tuxedo Black Memento ink below the neck of the llama 3 times.
3. Colour each llama with a variety of Stampin’ Blends. I chose Cloud Cover, Darling Duckling, Lost Lagoon, Smoky Slate, Strawberry Slush and Timid Tiger. You don’t want anything dark because you won’t see the pattern on the paper.
4. Fussy cut them and set aside.
5. Also stamp the long scarf a couple of times to extend the height of each llama to desired height. Set aside.

Stamp the llama bases

1. On a scrap of Basic White, stamp a tall, medium and small llama with Tuxedo Black Memento ink.
2. Fussy cut these leaving a narrow border all round.
3. Align and adhere coloured in scarves to the tall, medium and small llama as pictured above but do not apply adhesive to the bottom of the scarves so that you can tuck the extension scarf pieces underneath it.
4. Once each extension is in situ, you can carry on colouring per colour scheme for the respective llamas before adhering them properly.

Cutting guide card base and mat layers

1. Card base : Strawberry Slush 5 ¾” x 8 ¼” (14.5 cm x 21 cm). Long side score at 4 ⅛” (10.5 cm)
2. Mat layer #1 Timid Tiger : cut 2 pieces one for front and one for inside at 5 ½” x 3 ⅞” (14 cm x 9.8 cm)
3. Mat layer #2 : Basic White : cut 2 pieces one for front and one for inside at 5 ¼” x 3 ⅝” (13.3 cm x 9.2 cm).
4. Stamp sentiment on a scrap of Basic White with Strawberry Slush ink. Fussy cut and set aside.

Assembly card front

1. Adhere Timid Tiger to front and inside of card leaving an even border on all 4 sides.
2. Take one of the Basic White mat layers and use a blending brush to add a light hint of Cloud Cover colour to it.
3. Put dimensionals on the back of all three llamas. Centre and adhere the tallest llama in the middle, then adhere the medium size llama on on the left, and the smallest llama to its right leaving an even space between each. Flip over to the back and trim off any excess llama overhanging bottom of mat layer. Then adhere on top of Timid Tiger mat layer leaving an even border on all 4 sides.
4. Adhere sentiment to bottom right corner as pictured.
5. Embellish with the star “On the Go Puffy Stickers”.

Inside card

1. Adhere remaining Basic White mat layer to inside of card leaving an even border on all 4 sides.
2. Embellish with “On the Go Puffy Stickers” stamp in top right corner. This is to minimise “bulk” because the llamas on the front of the card have been adhered with dimensionals too. By adhering the puffy sticker in the top right corner, it balances it out.
