Alternative cards – Birthday Fancy Kit

Alternative cards – Birthday Fancy Kit. This is an all inclusive kit. I procrastinated about getting this one because we are spoilt for choice. Stampin’ Up! have been releasing 2 new kits a month of late, so it’s lovely to be able to pick and choose. If you have deep pockets, you could get them all, but my head says only buy what you really, really love!

Altered Cards to stretch supplies

You can make the cards following the instructions, or break them down and stretch the supplies by adding your own card bases to make many more! I followed the instruction sheet to make the three choreographed cards. The remaining card bases were cut in half to make mat layers for the extra cards.

Original Kit Card Choreographed designs

Here are the original kit card designs by following the instruction sheet. The envelops are all the same.

  1. Gold spotted Basic White kit card
  2. Pink striped kit card
  3. Blue spotted kit card
Altered White card bases with gold dots

Cut gold spotted kit cards on the score line then trim each piece at 5 ½” x 3 ⅞” (14 cm x 9.8 cm). This will yield 6 mat layers in total.

  1. Melon Mambo card bases were used for 1st and 2nd card are cut at 5 ¾” x 8 ¼” (14.5 cm x 21 cm). The pop out elements were cut to share between the two cards.
  2. Lost Lagoon card bases are cut at 5 ¾” x 8 ¼” (14.5 cm x 21 cm) and folded in half. The labels were matted with Lost Lagoon so that they would “pop”.
  3. The Lost Lagoon landscape card bases were cut at 4 ⅛” x 11 ½” (10.5 cm x 29 cm) and folded in half and the pop out elements were also shared between the two cards.
Pink striped card base

Basic White landscape card bases cut at 4 ⅛” x 11 ½” (10.5 cm x 29 cm) and folded in half. Pink striped kit cards – cut on the score line then trim at 5 ½” x 3 ⅞” (14 cm x 9.8 cm) to yield 2 mat layers each making a total of 6 mat layers.

  1. Melon Mambo card bases cut at 5 ¾” x 8 ¼” (14.5 cm x 21 cm) and folded in half. Each pink striped mat layer was adhered to Melon Mambo card bases and the elements shared between the two cards.
  2. Basic White card bases cut at 5 ¾” x 8 ¼” (14.5 cm x 21 cm) and folded in half. Striped pink mats added and Textured Notes die cut Basic White layer backed by Lost Lagoon card stock and label.
  3. Left over pop out elements were used to decorate one of the landscape cards with a pie and bowl of cherries for the other. A strip of Cloud Cover as adhered to the front and stamped with greeting.
Blue spotted card base

All card bases were in Basic White card stock. Portrait card bases cut at 5 ¾” x 8 ¼” (14.5 cm x 21 cm) and folded in half. Landscape card bases cut at 4 ⅛” x 11 ½” (10.5 cm x 29 cm) and folded in half.

Blue spotted kit cards were cut on the score line then trimmed at 5 ½” x 3 ⅞” (14 cm x 9.8 cm) to yield 2 mat layers each making a total of 6.

  1. Trim an envelop flap to make banners for the cards and share the pop out elements between the two cards.
  2. Cut one of the card fronts into narrower strips to use as decorative pieces (middle picture).
  3. Create a banner with the flap of an envelop as shown in picture on the right.

From 12 to 21 cards!

Altogether I made 21 cards from this kit simply by adding some extra card stock for the card bases and mat layers. Three cards made following the Birthday Fancy Kit instructions, and 18 more by cutting each card in half to make mat layers. So from the original 12 cards, I made 9 extra!
