Double Flap fold – Wildflower Birthday

Double flap fold – Wildflower Birthday. This double flap fold Wildflower Birthday card was made for my daughter’s birthday recently. It’s quite bulky because to keep it closed, you need a belly band. I am using the Wildflower Birthday 12″x 12″ (30.5 x 30.5 cm) Specialty Designer Series Papers which is currently in the Last Chance List.

Something old and something new

To make the backing pieces to adhere the pop-out die cut cake, I used the Fright Night dies (part of the Fright Night Bundle) from theJuly 25 online exclusive. I also used the Blueberry Bushel two-tone 12″x 12″ (30.5 x 30.5 cm) card stock which is lighter in weight. In order to strengthen it, I added Pool Party and DSP. mat layers to the card.

The Wildflower Birthday Designer Series first appeared as an online exclusive in May 25 and is now on the Last Chance list together with the Suite collection. I’m sad to see it go.

Strawberry Slush and Pretty in Pink Gems I used as embellishments are also on the last chance list and has been discounted.

Double flap fan fold card template

Card base

• Blueberry Bushel card base cut at 11″ x 5 ¾” (28 cm x 14.5 cm).
• Long side score at 1 ¼”, 5 ½”, 9 ½” (3.8 cm, 14 cm, 24.1 cm)

Pool Party Layer #1

• 1st panel Pool Party: cut 2 pieces @ 1″ x 5 ½” (2.5 cm x 14 cm)
• 2nd panel Pool Party: cut 1 piece 4″ x 5 ½” (10.2 cm x 14 cm)
• 3rd panel Pool Party: cut 1 piece 3 ¾” x 5 ½” (9.5 cm x 14 cm)
• 4th panel on right Pool Party : cut 2 pieces 1 ¼” x 5 ½” (3.2 cm x 14 cm)

2nd Mat layer Wildflower Birthday DSP

You can see where to adhere the DSP. One piece on the corresponding panels on the front (refer to picture on the left). Adhere remaining piece where applicable on the back of template (refer to picture on the right).

• 1st panel DSP Pattern A: cut 2 pieces @ ¾” x 5 ¼” (2 cm x 13.5 cm)
• 2nd panel Basic White: cut 1 piece 3 ¾”x 5 ¼” (9.5 cm x 13.5 cm). Cut DSP strip in Pattern A at ⅞” x 3 ¾” (2.2 cm x 9.5 cm) and align and adhere ⅜” (1 cm) from bottom and both edges on Basic White panel. Adhere one of the pop-out die cut floral elements. Stamp sentiment from “The Right Words” cling stamp set in Blueberry Bushel ink.
• 3rd panel DSP Pattern B : cut 1 piece 3 ¾” x 5 ¼” (9.5 cm x 13.5 cm)
• 4th panel on right DSP Pattern A : cut 2 pieces 1 ¼” x 5 ½” (3.2 cm x 14 cm)

How to fold card to create double flap

• 1st fold – take right edge and fold in half toward left side.
• Fold back the flap as pictured in middle picture
• Then fold bottom flap over top flap to create the double flap – picture on right.

Belly Band and label

• Belly band Blueberry Bushel two-tone card stock : 1 ¼” x 12″ (3.2 cm x 30.5 cm). Wrap round card and adhere together to form belly band.
• Die cut 2 larger Fright Night labels with darker side of Blueberry Bushel two-tone card stock and 1 smaller Fright Night label with light side.
• Adhere smaller lighter shade of Blueberry Bushel label on top of darker shade. Apply dimensionals on the tiered cake and adhere to label.
• Apply adhesive to back of label on the belly band and with lighter side facing each other on reverse side, sandwich belly band with the remaining larger die cut Fright Night label and adhere together.

Finishing touches

• Stamp “happy birthday” with Blueberry Bushel ink on scrap of Basic White card stock and die cut label as pictured above and adhere to cake at an angle as shown.
• Lastly add Strawberry Slush and pink gems to embellish label on the band.
