Smush technique – Delicate Pines

Smush technique – Delicate Pines. The smush technique is a way of adding colour to a background. For this technique, you simply need an ink pad, or Stampin’ Write marker pen to scribble ink or pick up ink on an acrylic block, spritz it with water and then smush the block onto your paper to create a coloured background. How large an area you want to cover with ink, depends on the size of your block. For this card I used a Block “F”.

Tip: If using a large block like the Block “F”, take paper to the block so that the ink after spritzing will not pool and drip. You can also use a heavier weight card stock like Flluid 100 watercolour paper to better absorb the spritzed block.

Cutting guide

  1. Card base Balmy Blue : cut at 5 ¾” x 8 ¼” (14.5 cm x 21 cm) and folded in half.
  2. Basic White mat layer : Cut 2 pieces one for the card front and one for inside at 3 ⅞” x 5 ½” (9.8 cm x 14 cm).
  3. Strip of Basic White card stock for stamping and embossing sentiment.

Assembly

Card front
  1. Take a “F” block size and ink it up with Balmy Blue ink. Spritz with water.
  2. Place one of the Basic White pieces on top of block to soak up ink and rub hand over it to smush ink on to it. Allow to dry thoroughly before stamping on it.
  3. Ink up largest pine flake with Night of Navy ink and partially stamp randomly top and bottom as pictured. Then stamp a third but smaller pine flake on the left in between the two larger ones also in Night of Navy as shown.
  4. Apply Basic Rhinestone jewels in the centre of each pine flake.
  5. Stamp sentiment with Versamark ink on strip of Basic White card stock, silver emboss and heat set. Trim one end with flag tail and adhere in the middle as pictured.
Inside card
  1. Stamp the middle size pine flake (same as the one on the card front) in bottom left corner with Night of Navy ink.
  2. Ink up small detail stamp in Balmy Blue and stamp in between the prongs of the pine flake as shown in bottom left corner.
  3. Adhere Basic White layer to card base inside.
