Gift packaging for Valentine. I’ve used the gorgeous Love Notes 6″x 6″ (15.2 x 15.2 cm) papers which are really pretty to make gift packaging for a tiny bottle of cocktail mix. If papers are used in the traditional way, one side will be covered up by adhering it to a piece of card stock. The papers are so pretty I wanted to be able to display both sides. Consequently, by using flip flaps, which are transparent, you’d be able to see both sides.
What are Flip Flaps
Flip Flaps are exactly what they sound like—flaps that you attach to a page that flip to reveal additional photos, sentiments, or designs. Flip Flaps come in a variety of sizes and orientations and can be positioned anywhere on a page thanks to their self-adhesive strip. The ones I used are 3″x 3″ (7.6 cm x 7.6 cm)

Squash top box template

- Cut DSP 4 ¾” x 4 ⅞” (12 cm x 12.5 cm)
- With 4 ¾” side at the top score at 1 ⅛”, 2 ¾”, 3 ⅛”, 3 ½” (3 cm, 7 cm, 8 cm, 9 cm)
- Rotate DSP so that the 4 ⅞” (12.5 cm) is at the top then score at 1 ⅛”, 2 ¼”, 3 ⅜”, 4 ½” (3 cm, 5.7 cm, 8.6 cm, 11.4 cm)

- There are 3 score lines close together. Fold on the middle score line and cut through both layers on the score line of each panel shown by solid white lines.
- Repeat for the bottom base. (picture on the left)
- Eyeball centre of each panel and cut diagonally to bottom left corner as pictured in picture on the right. This allows for freedom of movement when you squash the lid down.
- Apply adhesive on the tab.
Assembling box
- Remove backing tape on tab and join ends together.
- Insert mini bottle of cocktail and fold and glue bottom flaps together. Ensure you leave front flap as the last one to adhere.
- Tie double strand of White Bakers twine to neck of box before squashing down to close. Complete tying bow.
- Remove backing tape from flip flap and adhere to back of box. Trim off excess adhesive back from flip flap.
- Insert DSP into flip flap and as a finishing touch, add a trio of loose Valentine assortment to front of box as pictured.

Product ListWhat do you think? Hope you like it and are inspired by it. You can customize the size of the packaging to the size of your bottle. You need the diameter of the bottle, the height to the neck of the bottle, the height from neck to top of lid – add a little extra at the top to extend beyond lid. Remember also to add a tab to join sides together. Use copy paper for your prototype before doing it for real on pretty paper.
