This Sunday I’m featuring a Spotlight Technique with Welcoming Woods stamp set. Sometimes you make cards with no specific occasion or person in mind. The Welcoming Woods stamp lent itself to making this long thin card which will fit in a DL envelope.
It also lent itself to practicing the hinge-stamp method on the Stamparatus. It had been some time since I last dug out the Gilded Leafing. What sparked the spotlight technique was the size and length of the card. I also wanted to use gold foil as my mat layers.
Spotlighting Technique
This was a triple spotlight! Spotlighting is a technique whereby you stamp your image, or scene, a second time on a second piece of card stock. Then you can chop it up and lay it on a mat layer, align it with the original stamped piece and you get the effect as shown in the photo above. Essentially, it’s a seamless continuation of the original stamped piece but elevated to highlight (spotlight) it.
Altering card
Since making the original, my eldest grandson was approaching his 21st birthday. He likes stags. I was delighted that I could use this card after all. I simply stamped a deer and antlers from the Peaceful Deer stamp set. Then I stamped and embossed “21” in gold on Basic White card stock which I matted in Cherry Cobbler and it morphed into a 21st birthday card!
I was pleased with the result, and more importantly, he loved it too! If you’d like to see another sample using this stamp set click HERE.
