Simple cards with Choose Happy. Choose Happy is one of the most useful stamp sets to have in your stash because it has 14 simple line drawings to suit all four seasons of the year. These are a penguin, candle, heart, star, 2 faces, a bird, rabbit, an apple, a bee, a yacht, the sun, a pumpkin and a flower with leaves. In addition there are 25 words which you can build on to form a phrase to suit the occasion.
Just as I was preparing to work with this set, it mysteriously vanished from my desk and despite copious efforts to find it (having gone through the bins twice) and crawling on my hands and knees to look through every nook and cranny, I gave up and treated myself to another set with my host rewards. It pained me having to fork out for another set so at least this way, I didn’t have to shell out for another. Familiar scenario?
I made three cards to show you how you can make them all look very different from the simple to the more elaborate by adding embossing folders and dies.
Simple bee happy card
A standard card using half an A4 sheet. On a separate piece of card stock, stamp the floral images randomly and colour them with Stampin’ Blends in Lemon Lolly and Shy Shamrock. Stamp the bee directly on the card front, and another on a scrap of Basic White. Fussy cut and colour the bee and adhere on top of the previously stamped bee.
Attach your strip of randomly stamped floral images flanked by Shy Shamrock ribbon to make it “pop”.
Birthday card
Stamp the stars directly on to card base in Lost Lagoon. Cut a strip of Lost Lagoon and emboss it with the online exclusives Basics 3D embossing folders with the hashed pattern.
I added the Unbounded Love dies to die cut three frames. The die I used separates the main frame from the inside of the frame. Just the one frame was a bit flimsy, so I cut 3 and glued them on top of each other to strengthen it. This allowed me to inlay the inside of one of the frames to give the in-lay effect.
I stamped and coloured the candles separately and also fussy cut them and adhered it to another label die cut from Unbounded Love Die set. The candles were glued on top and overlaid on another label as an added feature. Lastly I splattered some ink over the card with the lid and brush tip of a Lost Lagoon Stampin’ Write marker pen.
Anniversary card
This has to be my favourite. I embossed the Highland Heather layer with the Cute Crochet 3D embossing folder. The label, and leaf elements from the Unbounded Love dies were die cut in Basic White and I used a blending brush to colour in the leaves in Soft Sea Foam.
On a scrap piece of Basic White, I stamped the floral images from Choose Happy and coloured them in with Stampin’ Blends in Highland Heather combo and Dark Lemon Lolly then fussy cut the flowers but omitting the leaves. I also stamped the hearts in Highland Heather and fussy cut those too.
There’s a funny story to the “happy” sentiment. Originally, I had stamped “happy” directly on to the label, but I stamped it crooked! So, this is an easy fix. I stamped “happy” on a piece of scrap and fussy cut it leaving a generous white border around the silhouette of the word so I could adhere it with dimensionals over my crooked stamped word!
Finally, I used the lid of my Highland Heather Stampin’ Write marker to flick some splatters all over the card and added some gems.
Think of all the possibilities! There are still so many images yet to explore for instance the penguin, or the pumpkin and even the sailboat! Which of the three is your favourite?
