Autumn Expressions

Autumn Expressions. Hello, and happy Sunday! The weather is definitely turning and autumn is fast approaching. There is a beautiful bundle in the September-December 2024 mini on pages 36-37. The Autumn Expressions bundle has some unusual dies.

There is a die which cuts a hinged double frame and little extras with a bar and chain that goes across the top so that you can hang it up – looks like a handbag! In addition, there are dies which co-ordinate with the stamp images too.

How to make the card

  1. Card base Mossy Meadow cut at 5 ¾” x 8 ¼” (14.5 cm x 21 cm) and folded in half.
  2. Mat layer #1 card front and inside card Cajun Craze and cut 2 pieces at 5 ½” x 3 ¾” (14 cm x 9.5 cm).
  3. DSP Splendid Autumn 6″x 6″ (15.2 x 15.2 cm) cut 5 ⅜” x 3 ⅝” (13.7 cm x 9.2 cm). I used the reverse side and used a blending brush to add Mossy Meadow and Old Olive to the bottom third and half-way.
  4. Emboss blended piece with Forever Plaid 3D embossing folder and adhere to Cajun Craze mat layer.
  5. Adhere both layers to card base leaving an even border all round.
  6. Cut Basic White piece for inside card at 5 ⅜” x 3 ⅝” (13.7 cm x 9.2 cm)
  7. Scrap of Mossy Meadow to white emboss the word “Grateful” and fussy cut.
Inside card
  1. Adhere Cajun Craze mat layer to inside card.
  2. Stamp and adhere Basic White piece and adhere on top of Cajun Craze mat layer as pictured.
How to create the leaves

You can use the Woven Golden leaves as they are straight from the packet, but you can also use the dies to cut other shapes if you wish. It’s a tight fit and I reversed my plates and put the die cutting edge face up so I could make sure that the woven golden leaf covered the whole of the die.

  1. Take the Woven Golden leaves and die cut 3 leaves with the smaller leaf die.
  2. Die cut the sprig of leaves with the larger Woven Golden leaf die
  3. Scrunch the leaves up so that they look more natural before adhering to project with glue dots.

Frame

  1. Die cut the frame with the frame die in Cajun Craze card stock.
  2. Also die cut 2 x pieces of the bar and 2 x pieces of the chain in Cajun Craze.
  3. Stack and adhere the bars, then stack and adhere the chain pieces. This is to give it added strength.
  4. Select a scene from the Splendid Autumn DSP. Trim it to 3″x 6″ horizontally (7.6 cm x 15.2 cm) in order to stretch supplies. The top portion will be the sky and the bottom portion will make up your scene.
  5. Burnish the score lines on the frame and close it so that the open flaps are at the top. The front of the frame is wider than the back of the frame.
  6. Position the die for the back of the frame over the DSP and die cut that portion only. You want to make sure that when you adhere it inside the frame, that the scene you capture is the right way up.
  7. Apply adhesive to the outer edge of the DSP, insert the scene and adhere to the back of frame.
  8. Insert the bar centered in the middle, apply adhesive to front of frame and adhere to back of frame. The bar will be sandwiched between the front and back of frame.
  9. Adhere the flaps to enclose the bar, then attach the chain on the back as shown.

Finishing touches

  1. Arrange leaves as desired, two at the top right and three to the bottom left of the greeting.
  2. Finally add the iridescent foil gems.
