Blue and White Colour Combo. The theme for Tech 4 Stampers Blog hop in March is Blue & White colour combination. I’ve mixed something old with something new. The new is an Online Exclusive released on 4 March called the Year of Flowers Bundle and the something old is the Countryside Inn 12″ x 12″ (30.5 x 30.5 cm) Designer Series Papers.

Welcome to this month’s Blue and White colour combo challenge for the Tech 4 Stampers blog hop.

Night of Navy torn edges technique card

I’m re-visiting an age old technique called the Torn Paper technique, but I believe it is also known by another name called the Fault Line technique. They are both the same – but just known by a more fancy name!

The Tech 4 Stampers is a monthly subscription group run by Louise Sims. She mentors and enables members to understand IT jargon and equips them with a fountain of Technical knowledge to build or manage their own websites. It takes the mystery out of “tech” and I’ve certainly grown in confidence thanks to her expertise, patience and guidance. Not only that, I’ve met and made new friends with my fellow “Techs” and love the camaraderie within the group.

Torn Paper aka Fault Line Technique

Torn Paper is a paper craft technique which involves tearing paper to create texture and dimension. It can be used for cards, collages and scrapbooks. By holding the paper down with one thumb, you can tear the paper with the other hand. Then repeat on the other side of the paper if desired and tear slowly in order to create a larger tear line thus creating more texture.

A Little Tip

Tear in a haphazard pattern to create a more jagged line and try not to tear in a straight line to add more interest. By stacking and tearing two pieces of paper the same size, your tear line will be duplicated and it is visually more pleasing to the eye

Cutting guide

  • Card base : Night of Navy 5 ¾” x 8 ¼” (14.5 cm x 21 cm). Long side score at 4 ⅛” (10.5 cm)
  • Mat layers front and inside of card : *Cut 2 pieces Basic White 3 ⅞” x 5 ½” (9.8 cm x 14 cm)

  • Also cut a piece in a contrasting colour (Night of Navy, same colour as the card base) 3 ⅞” x 3 ½” (9.8 cm x 9 cm).
  • Stack both pieces together and use washi tape to create photo corners to keep both layers of card stock together before tearing (picture on left).
  • Tear card stock toward you ½” (1.3 cm) down from right top edge in a haphazard fashion diagonally down to the bottom left ½” (1.3 cm) above bottom left edge of card base.

How to adhere the torn corners

  • Separate each pair of torn corner pieces.
  • Distress the torn edges with your fingers or with the edge of the scissors.
  • Stagger and adhere each pair of torn corner pieces ½” (1.3 cm) apart. Ensure the Night of Navy piece is aligned on right and left edges with the Basic White corner piece.
