Birthday card for kids. I’m switching back to the Annual Catalogue’s Suite collections and this time it’s the Turtle-y Cute Suite. It wasn’t on my radar, but on closer inspection the images and papers made me giggle! Also the pun on Turtle-y cute because they are! Turtles on their backs, turtles sporting a rubber ring round their middle and wearing snorkels, turtles making music, turtles gardening – you have to see it to believe it!

For today’s Kids birthday card, the two outside turtles were die cut from the DSP. The chef holding the birthday cake was fussy cut. Incidentally, the dies for the turtles also cuts the outline of the upper legs so you can tuck objects behind it as depicted below. One is strumming his banjo, and the other is eating his ice cream.

Some of the Turtle-y Awesome dies explained

You might wonder what some of the dies are meant for. I went on a path of discovery, so you don’t need to.

1. First picture shows how the Turtle outline die also cuts around the limb on the left. This is so you can tuck an object to make it look like the turtle is holding it.
2. The crescent shaped die cuts out the turtle’s shell and you use the second “knobbly” die as another layer to adhere on top of shell.
3. Middle picture shows how to die cut and assemble the hat. Use a lighter colour for the main hat, and the smaller die in a darker colour to glue on top as a shadow piece underneath the rim of the hat.
4. In the last picture, these are the dies you’ll need to create the banjo. One of the dies also doubles up as a die for die cutting the balloons from the coordinating 12″ x 12″ (30.5 x 30.5 cm) DSP.
5. To make the banjo, first die cut the “balloon” die in Basic Black. Next die cut the fret board and neck of the banjo in Pecan Pie. This die will cut out the tailpiece at the same time.
6. Die cut a small circle in Basic White with the circle die and adhere this onto the black base .
7. Apply adhesive to the tail of the balloon and adhere the neck and fret board piece in Pecan Pie butted up to the Basic White circle.
8. Lastly apply a tiny bit of adhesive on the edge of the circle in line with the neck and fret board and adhere the tailpiece.

How to make the card

1. Card base : Poppy Parade card stock cut at 4 ⅛” x 11 ½” (10.5 cm x 29 cm) and folded in half.
2. Shaded Spruce : Cut 2 pieces at 4″ x 5 ⅝” (10.2 cm x 14.2 cm). Emboss one of the pieces with the Turtle Textures Embossing Folder and set aside the other for later.
3. Die cut two turtles from the Birthday Sheet and fussy cut the chef holding the birthday cake (there isn’t a die for that one). Also die cut a balloon, 2 party hats and an ice cream. Arrange and adhere hats, balloon and ice cream as shown on card to embossed Shaded Spruce mat layer on card front.
4. Die cut the elements needed to construct the banjo and assemble as explained in steps 5 – 8 under the heading Some of the Turtle-y Awesome Dies explained. Once assembled, tuck banjo underneath turtle’s fore leg and adhere with dimensionals.
5. Stamp the music notes in Tuxedo Black Memento ink on scrap of Basic White card stock and fussy cut in shape of speech bubble. Adhere with dimensionals as shown in picture.
6. Use Shaded Spruce ink to stamp birthday sentiment on Basic White card stock and trim one end on a slant as shown. Apply dimensionals in between the legs of the turtles to adhere to card front.
7. Embellish with Shades of Green Hexagons.

Inside card

1. Adhere the remaining Shaded Spruce piece to inside of card leaving an even border on all 4 sides.
2. Cut a Basic White piece 3 ⅞” x 5 ½”.
3. Partially emboss the left side with the Turtle Textures Embossing Folder.
4. Put tear n’ tape on back of Basic White piece where embossing ends.
5. Wrap Shaded Spruce & Soft Sea Foam ½” (1.3 cm) ribbon round it and adhere to Shaded Spruce layer leaving an even border on all 4 sides to finish card.
