A Valentine Card and gift box

A Valentine Card and gift box. I nearly missed The Love Notes Designer Series papers when I was looking for things which would be suitable for Valentine cards. Instead of getting a Valentine bundle with stamps and dies, I went down the alternative route. In the Mix & Match section in the January-April 26 mini, page 17 you’ll find the Love Notes 6″ x 6″ (15.2 x 15.2 cm) Mix & Match Designer Series Paper. There are 48 sheets in a pack, 8 each of 6 double sided designs.

There are card templates as well as scrapbook templates you can use to create a variety of cards on the same page. With 8 sheets each of 6 double sided designs, there’s more than enough to make cards without busting the bank!

The papers are so pretty, I wanted to see both sides of the paper so here is what I came up with. With the help of a trimmer I cut an aperture to create a “frame” so that you could see the front as well as the back of the double sided pattern paper. Then I cut a Basic White piece measuring 2”x 2” (5 cm x 5 cm) layer and adhered it to the inside of the card.

Materials used

• Sweet Jar stamp set
• Love Notes 6″x 6″ (15.2 x 15.2 cm) Designer Series Paper
• Hearts of Love 3D embossing folder (new from Jan-Apr 26 Mini) p.31
• The box is a non-SU product and measures 8.5 x 8.5 x H3.5 cm.
• ½” Shiny Ribbon Real Red (currently on Last Chance List)
• Real Red and Basic White card stock
• INKS: Tuxedo Black Memento and Real Red

Card instructions

Card base

1. Cut Real Red card stock at 6″ x 3″ (15.2 cm x 7.6 cm)
2. On long side score at 3″ (7.6 cm).
3. Align right edge at ½” (1.3 cm) to right of cutting groove and cut from ½” down to 2 ½” (1.3 cm down to 6.4 cm).
4. Next align 3″ score line at ½” (1.3 cm) to left of cutting groove and cut from ½” down to 2 ½” (1.3 cm down to 6.4 cm).
5. Rotate card stock and align long edge at ½” (1.3 cm) to right of cutting groove and cut between cut lines. Repeat for opposite side by aligning left edge at ½” (1.3 cm) to left of cutting groove.

Cut DSP and inside Basic White piece

1. Take the sheet that has the heart with Happy Valentine’s Day greeting and cut it into 3″x 3″ (7.6 x 7.6 cm) squares.
2. Cut the ⅛” (0.3 cm) off the 3″x 3″ (7.6 x 7.6 cm) square from all 4 sides.
3. Apply a thin line of adhesive on all 4 side at the back of the greeting. Centre and adhere on top of square aperture leaving an even border on all 4 sides – check that the back heart is also central before gluing it down securely.
4. Stamp “a little treat for you” in Real Red ink on the reverse side at the bottom of the heart as pictured. (inside left)
5. Cut Basic White piece at 2″ x 2″ (5 cm x 5 cm). Stamp “sending a little ….your way” and the trio of hearts in Real Red ink. Change to Tuxedo Memento Black ink to stamp “love” as pictured.

Decorating the box

1. Cut 2 pieces Love Notes DSP 3″x 3″ (7.6 cm x 7.6 cm).
2. Align each piece at ⅝” (1.6 cm) to right of cutting groove and cut from ⅝” down to 2 ⅜” (1.6 cm down to 6 cm). Then align each piece at at ⅝” (1.6 cm) to left of cutting groove and cut from ⅝” down to 2 ⅜” (1.6 cm down to 6 cm).
3. Rotate paper a quarter turn and cut between two lines as in step 5 for card base but align at ⅝” (1.6 cm) on each side. Adhere one piece on top of box and the other on the inside of box as pictured.
4. Real Red card stock : cut 4 pieces measuring 1″ x 3″ (2.5 cm x 7.6 cm) and emboss with the Hearts of Love 3D embossing folder.
5. Run embossed pieces over an inked White Craft pad and adhere to all 4 sides of box. Remember to close lid before you do this.
6. Lastly tie a bow and attach in top left corner of box as pictured.
