Birthday card – Rolling waves

Birthday card – Rolling waves. i’m playing catch up again because Rolling Waves was a March online exclusive and it’s already April! Now that Easter’s over, I can turn my attention to other stash in my arsenal! I’ve always loved being by the sea, there’s something soothing when you sleep to hear the sound of the waves and the smell of being by the sea.

Cutting guide

1. Cut Coastal Cabana card base 4 ⅛” x 8 ¼” (14.5 cm x 21 cm) folded in half.
2. Pool Party mat layer 3 ⅞” x 5 ½” (10 cm x 14 cm)
3. Crumb Cake layer 3 ⅝”x 5 ¼” (9.5 cm x 13.5 cm) for stamping waves
4. Inside card – Basic White layer 3 ⅞” x 5 ½” (10 cm x 14 cm).

Die cutting

1. Apply adhesive sheet to back of Basic White scrap large enough to cut all 3 types of “waves” as pictured above on left.
2. Use blending brush to colour Lost Lagoon at bottom of 1st (smallest) wave but leave the upper portion white.
3. On the Middle wave (largest one), colour with Lost Lagoon at the bottom. Switch to a lighter Coastal Cabana ink for the lighter shade. Also take care not to accidentally tear of damage the “lacy” bits. Lastly just darken the top edge a little but also allow some white un-coloured.
4. For the bottom wave, start with Coastal Cabana for the darker shade and Pool Party for the lighter shade. Leave the upper third white.
5. Die cut a row of sea shells. Colour a trio of starfish with Calypso Coral stampin’ blends and a couple of the clam shells with a touch of Coastal Cabana.

Stamping Crumb Cake layer

1. Ink large wave stamp with Versamark ink and stamp repeatedly on Crumb Cake card stock. If you have Stampin’ Up!’s Stampin’ Positioner you can do this really easily. However, if you don’t you can still stamp repeatedly with a stamp block leaving a tiny gap between waves.
2. Switch to the smaller wave stamp and ink with Crumb Cake then stamp in between the gaps as pictured on the right.

“Gutting” the mat layers

1. Die cut the nested circles from inside your mat layers to save on card stock.
2. Use the largest Stylish Shapes circle die for the circular mat layer from the Pool Party piece.
3. With the second largest circle die, die cut the stamped Crumb Cake circle.
4. Remove backing from the waves, layer them on to circle ensuring that the stamped pattern is also aligned. Secure with low tack tape and place on cutting platform to cut away excess waves.

Tip : Add more depth of colour to a scrap of Lost Lagoon and tuck under wave.

Assembling card

1. Adhere Pool Party layer to card front followed by the stamped waves Crumb Cake piece.
2. Next adhere the Pool Party circle adhered directly to Crumb Cake piece.
3. Apply dimensionals on back of smaller circle with waves. Take care to re-align the pattern so that appears seamless.
4. Attach starfish and shells and rhinestone basic jewels.

Inside card

1. Stamp the largest wave in Coastal Cabana ink.
2. Clean stamp and ink with Crumb Cake and stamp as pictured.
3. Use speckled stamp to add some “sand” in Crumb Cake.
4. Adhere to inside of card leaving an even border on all 4 sides.
