Technique Club – Grid/Faux tile in a Hidden Message card

For Technique Club this month we made a hidden message card, a fun project to do and definitely with a WOW factor! The ladies worked extremely hard and learnt how to do this Grid Technique using a Scor-It tool and applying it to the hidden message card (butterfly image from Garden Whimsy). They also did a bit of kissing – not the mouth to mouth kind, but stamp on stamp! To finish off, we made a bagalope – a mini gift bag out of an envelop using the “Cheers” wheel.

Bagalope

A bagalope is really an envelope which has been scored so that it transforms into a bag. By scoring on both long sides and one short side, you can create a gusseted bag. You cut one of the short sides to create an opening, punch a pair of holes to thread a ribbon through.

The picture on the left is the hidden message card. The background was stamped with “Canvas” in Certainly Celery on all the “pages” that showed except for the back of the card. Images from Garden Whimsy were stamped with Taken with Teal.

To reveal the hidden message, push the two outer panels of card toward each other in a concertina shape until it’s almost closed. Then grab the centre and pull apart gently to reveal a hidden message.

Take a closer look at the grid which has been left plain without a background stamped on it. Instead the butterfly image was stamped directly on to the grid on the raised embossed side.

Faux Tile technique

With the help of the Scor-It tool, you can make score lines. You then stamp directly onto the debossed side of the score lines to create this faux tile effect.

This is a close up of the sample we did on the indented side of the grid. Stamp set used for this one was Soft Summer, a two-step stamping set.
