Inspiring Inkin’ Challenge #30 Case DT’s card, New Technique, New Colour Combo

This fortnight’s challenge is to case a card from one of the Inspiring Inkin’s Design Team blogs and use a new technique or colour combo that we’d never used before. I chose Vannessa’s card which she did for a challenge to make 3D roses here and here. As I’ve never done these flowers before, I thought it would be a good one to do. The colour combo came from this colour generator here which we used on a previous challenge and again, I have never tried this colour combo before so here goes. The card I made is an A4 gatefold in the picture above, pretty big by my standards! It kept opening up whilst upright, so in order to take the picture, I’ve had to lie it down, and by doing so, I couldn’t get the whole card in! First,I dry embossed straight lines 1/4″ in from all edges on the left and right gatefolds. Next I made the roses using the largest flower image from Vintage Vogue stamped on Very Vanilla card stock. I mounted the assembled roses onto a 3″ square piece of Very Vanilla card stock which was stamped randomly in Certainly Celery with the curly wurly stamp from Vintage Vogue as a background, distressed the edges with the cutter tool, and inked the edges with a sponge dauber in Certainly Celery. This was then mounted on a piece of 3 1/4″ square of Certainly Celery which was then mounted on a 3 1/2″ square piece of Melon Mambo card stock. Several branches and leaves were punched out with the 2-step bird punch and arranged and adhered in between the hand cut crimped leaves I made. With the aid of the Stampamajig, I aligned the straight edged floral image from Vintage Vogue and stamped in Certainly Celery on all four sides of the triple mat with the 3D roses on to form a frame round them, stamping over the closed gatefold front of the card. Adhesive was applied to one side of the triple 3D rose mat and adhered to the left gate fold. When you open the card, you will see inside the left and right panels have been stamped with Bella Toille in Melon Mambo on Very Vanilla card stock. I added a piece of Melon Mambo polka dot grosgrain ribbon to hide the joins of the stamping process – the piece of card is longer than the actual background stamp, so I had to stamp it twice. The centre panel has 3 layers, Melon Mambo, Gable Green and Very Vanilla. I took a quadrant out of each corner of the Very Vanilla piece, inked the edges in Melon Mambo before adhering to the other layers. I made a faux brad by dry embossing with a cropadile where each quadrant lies. The sentiment “Celebrate” is from the Wonderful Words set. To finish the card, I added a “bow” and adhered it with a glue dot in the top left hand corner of the matted 3D roses on the front. Thank you for stopping by.
