How to apply Gilded Leaf

There’s an exciting new product in the new January-June 2021 Mini. This is the new Gold Leaf embellishment from the Fine Art Floral Suite on pages 32 – 34.

Remember the Heat & Stick powders from years ago? I am such a hoarder and have kept my tub of Heat & Stick powder for several years! To my surprise, it still works!

The concept of gilding is really simple. You need a slow drying ink like Versamark which will allow the Heat & Stick powder to adhere to it. Melt the powder with a Heat Tool and as soon as it melts and turns translucent, press the gold leaf into it, rub it in with your fingers, then brush off the excess with a stippling brush.

In this card sample I had dry embossed the card front layer with the Painted Texture 3D embossing folder. Then I ran a Versamark inkpad over the surface, sprinkled the Heat & Stick powder over it, and applied the gold leaf afterwards.

I also experimented with different ways to apply the gilding by masking, or using dies, adhesive sheets and even tear and tape! Often adhesive sheets are used on the underside of the die cut which is then adhered to your project. When you use adhesive sheets for gilding, the sticky side is used to adhere the gilding leaf instead. Do press play on the video I’ve created. By purchasing the Suite Collection, I was able to earn the Level 2 Sale-a-bration Berry Blessings stamp set and patterned papers I featured in my post last Friday!

This technique is so much fun! Have a go yourself! You won’t regret it.
