Unusual card closure – Dragonfly Garden

Eek! It’s the last day of January. Despite the trials and tribulations of another lock down, bad weather, not being able to go out, somehow we have survived it!

I don’t know about you, but my passion for paper crafting has kept me sane. Keeping the blog updated, filming and publishing my weekly videos has kept me occupied.

We also had a letter to say that we would be invited to have the vaccine very shortly. Perhaps by the time this is published, hubby and I would have had our jabs.

Anyway, I digress. I don’t know about you, but I found the rich colours in the Dandy Garden 6″x 6″ (15.2 x 15.2 cm) pack not to my taste and I really struggled with the colour palette. I didn’t mind the blues and less busy patterns, though. This is what I eventually came up with.

I used Bumblebee as my card base. A piece of the patterned paper I had left over was adhered to the front and I used the Classic Label punch centered from the side to punch an aperture through which the dragonfly wings could poke through to keep the card closed.

You can see the aperture much better from this side. As I had adhered patterned paper where you would normally adhere a Basic White piece, I used the left hand side instead.

Punched Dragonfly

Did you think that I’d stamped that dragonfly? No, I didn’t. One of the patterned sheets have dragonflies which fit the punch perfectly. However, you do need to punch judiciously so as not to encroach on the smaller dragonflies which also fit the punch. I punched another dragonfly in Mossy Meadow and adhered them together to give it added strength. By doing this it meant I could hide the underside of the DSP Dragonfly which was in a totally different colour – Blackberry Bliss!

Blending Brushes

Have you tried the new blending brushes Stampin’ Up! now carry? They are fabulous to work with, and gives such a soft blending effect without any harsh lines. I first blended the edges with Mossy Meadow, and followed up with Bumblebee.

Sale-a-bration freebie

The left hand card insert looked a bit bare even after having added colour around its edges. It needed something else, but I didn’t want to use the floral image in the Dragonfly Garden set. It meant having to do some colouring and I wanted a silhouette instead. I used the Corner Bouquet Level 1 Sale-a-bration stamp set which is free subject to a qualifying order. It was simply stamped in Mossy Meadow and fitted the bill.
