Pillow box ideas for Christmas

Pillow box ideas for Christmas in Week 10 of my 12 week Christmas Countdown series.

I’m really excited about this one. The July-December 2021 mini didn’t launch until a month later in August owing to global shipping issues. In my personal opinion, I felt that August was too early to post Christmas projects, but I loved the Pretty Pillow box dies so much, I wanted to feature them as soon as it launched in a non-Christmas context.

In a previous post, I made one with a magnetic closure for the pillow box which you can see HERE using the Sweet Strawberry Bundle.

Adorning Designs Decorative masks

Masks or stencils are a great way to add colour or texture to a plain piece of card stock. I used a plain piece of Kraft card stock. You lay the stencil over the card stock and area you want to apply colour. Often, you would also secure the stencil with washi tape or painter’s tape to prevent the stencil from moving. If it moves, then inadvertently, your the stenciled pattern will have fuzzy edges or look smudged.

I used the Shimmery Embossing paste and applied it to the stencil with a palette knife to create sparkly snowflakes. Bear in mind that the more paste you apply, the longer it will take to dry. Mine was a very thin layer, a little dollop goes a long way. To preserve your embossing paste, remember to keep the jar sealed to prevent air getting into it. As your paste depletes from use, a piece of cling film or saran wrap over the paste will prevent it from drying out.

Altered pillow box

I like to challenge myself into finding an alternative way to use the dies. Pillow boxes cannot stand up by nature of its name and design. The die fits on a 6″ x 6″ (15.2 x 15.2 cm) sheet of paper. In fact width wise, it’s only 5″. This is what I came up with, why not hang it on a tree? Why not make it stand up?

…….so I did! Find out how – press play on the video.
