Keep it Simple – Tech 4 Stampers Blog Hop

This month we’re to Keep it Simple for the Tech 4 Stampers Blog Hop. I don’t know about you, but I find that really hard to do! To keep it simple, I have to go back to basics and just limit my supplies! That’s hard to do as a Demonstrator as I could easily open a shop with all the stash I own!!!

Abigail Rose Suite

I chose the Abigail Rose Suite to work with. The collection includes the Cottage Rose Cling stamp set and the Cottage Flowers dies, Abigail Rose 12″ x 12″ (30.5 x 30.5 cm) Designer Series Papers and a 10 yd (9.1 m) reel of 7/8″ (2.2 cm) natural ribbon.

The Tech 4 Stampers is a monthly subscription group run by Louise Sims. She mentors and enables members to understand IT jargon and equips them with a fountain of Technical knowledge to build or manage their own websites. It takes the mystery out of “tech” and I’ve certainly grown in confidence thanks to her expertise, patience and guidance. Not only that, I’ve met and made new friends with my fellow “Techs” and love the camaraderie within the group.

The details

gift packaging with Cottage Rose Bundle

I did try to keep it simple, honest I did! The box base is one of the easiest basic boxes you can create. It was modelled after the Kraft Gift Boxes. Decoration for the belly band was kept to a minimum.

simple box with integral lid with punched finger hole

Cutting measurements for box

  1. Cut a piece of Crumb Cake card stock 11-1/4″ x 8-1/4″ (29 cm x 21 cm)
  2. On the long side score at 3/4″, 5-1/4″, 6″, 10-1/2″ (2 cm, 13.5 cm, 15.5 cm, 27 cm)
  3. Rotate card stock short side is at the top and score at 3/4″ (2cm). Turn card stock 180 degrees and score opposite side at 3/4″ (2 cm).

Constructing box

  1. Long side cut to first score line at 3/4″, 5-1/4″, 6″, 10-1/2” (2 cm, 13.5 cm, 15.5 cm, 27 cm)
  2. Repeat cuts for opposite side.
  3. Burnish all score lines.
  4. Orient card stock so that the short side is facing you.
  5. At the top 3/4″ scored section, punch a finger hole in the middle.
  6. Adhere bottom and middle tabs on both sides to the 3/4″ scored sections to create box base.
  7. Adhere top tabs to the remaining 3/4″ sections with the punched finger hole to create box lid.

Belly Band

The belly band is in two pieces.

  1. Cut 1 piece Early Espresso card stock 2-1/4″ x A4 length (6 cm x A4 length) and a shorter piece of Early Espresso card stock at 2-1/4″ x 9″ (6 cm x 23 cm).
  2. To establish where the creases are, begin at the short side 3/4″ depth, over the front, down the side, then round the back. With the shorter piece, wrap it round the short side, across the bottom and up the opposite side. Trim off the excess for the shorter piece for an exact fit. Adhere the pieces together. Tip: Wrap pieces around the box for a perfect fit – not too tight, not too loose but just right whilst adhering it together.
  3. Cut Abigail Rose DSP 2″ x 12″ (5 cm x 30.5 cm). This will need trimming as you only need to adhere it to the two sides and top of belly band. There’s no need to adhere DSP on the bottom as you won’t see it.

Decorating the Belly Band

  1. Stamp the large rose with leaves in Tuxedo black Memento ink on Petal Pink card stock and die cut with corresponding Cottage Flowers Die.
  2. Stamp two sets of leaves in Tuxedo black Memento Ink on Very Vanilla card stock and die cut. Use Old Olive Stampin’ Blends combo to colour in leaves.
  3. Stamp sentiment in Versamark ink, sprinkle with white embossing powder on Early Espresso card stock and set with heat tool.
  4. Stamp leaves in Tuxedo Black memento ink on the Natural ribbon.
  5. Colour the lower 1/4 of ribbon with Petal Pink ink.
  6. Assemble elements on to belly band as pictured in photo.
