In October, the topic chosen is “For the Men” for the Tech 4 Stampers Blog Hop. The general consensus of opinion among my customers is that they find masculine cards harder to do. There is such a plethora of floral stamps but not so much that pander to hobbies or pursuits for the men folk.
It has to be said, Stampin’ Up! have tried to address that, and there is more to choose from these days. The thing about making cards for men is to scale back on the ribbon and frills, use strong neutral colours. The adage – “less is more” is certainly applicable when making cards for men.
The Tech 4 Stampers is a monthly subscription group run by Louise Sims. She mentors and enables members to understand IT jargon and equips them with a fountain of Technical knowledge to build or manage their own websites. It takes the mystery out of “tech” and I’ve certainly grown in confidence thanks to her expertise, patience and guidance. Not only that, I’ve met and made new friends with my fellow “Techs” and love the camaraderie within the group.
I chose the Wildife Wonder stamp set because the fonts and sentiments are perfect for masculine cards. This was a set I purchased with my hubby in mind. He does field archery so these are the images they use as targets on their shoots. I made a birthday card for him which you can see HERE.
How I made the card
In addition to the Wildlife Wonder stamp set, I used the Christmas Scottie stamp set. I wanted to create my own Designer Series Paper so I inked up the plaid stamp in Cajun Craze and stamped it on Very Vanilla card stock then die cut it with one of the Deckled Rectangle dies.
- Cut a card base – this is half an A4 sheet of Cajun Craze folded in half.
- “To a great guy” sentiment was stamped on the card front in Cajun Craze.
- Cut a 2″x 4-1/8″ (5 cm x 10.5 cm) strip of Mossy Meadow and emboss it with the Leaf Fall 3D embossing folder and adhere to bottom half of card 3/4″ (2 cm) up from the bottom edge.
- I stamped the fox on Very Vanilla card stock and die cut it using the 3rd smallest Deckled Rectangle die.
- Adhere the plaid piece to the left of the Mossy Meadow embossed strip.
- Stamp the foliage and fussy cut it then adhere the base of it with glue dots as shown in photo. Pop the upper half of the foliage on dimensionals for added depth.
- Adhere the stamped fox with dimensionals over the top of the plaid piece.
- Lastly add the rustic metallic adhesive backed dots to the upper top left corner of the Very Vanilla stamped fox piece.
Inside card
- Cut a Very Vanilla piece measuring 3-3/4″ x 5-1/2″ (9.5 cm x 14 cm)
- Stamp the foliage in the bottom left corner and adhere to inside of the card leaving an even border on all 4 sides.

I love the wildlife wonder set. It’s so adaptable for all sorts of cards.
Thanks Carol. I agree. The set’s growing on me!
Love the colour combo…not one I would have thought of!
I usually choose dark sombre colours for masculine cards. It’s a departure from blues which is my usual “go to”.
Great card Elaine and those colours work so well together x
Thanks Leighsa, the catalogue is always a great source of inspiration!
Great masculine card. Love the mix of a Christmas stamp set with a ‘normal’ one. Great colour theme too!
