Fun Fold card with hidden message

I was late to the party and only recently got to play properly with the Sweet Gingerbread bundle. This is a really simple faux gate fold with a hidden message. So, if you still haven’t finished all those Christmas cards, here’s another fun fold card to inspire you.

If you look carefully, the middle panel on the right side tucks in behind this square mat layer and slides shut in order to close it. Neat, huh?

Looks quite ordinary when closed and laid flat. View it from the top and it looks like this. Three equal panels have been cut. Two panels have been adhered to the left side at the top and bottom of the gate-fold mechanism. The third panel is adhered in the middle on the right. The square mat layers on the front of the card with the Gingerbread House is secured with dimensionals in the four corners so that the top two corners is adhered to the top panel and bottom two dimensionals is adhered to the bottom panel on the left side of the gate fold mechanism.

This is the card held open so you can see how it closes. The third panel adhered to the right side also sports a hidden message. I stamped the message in Basic White card stock and used the Stitched Rectangles dies to die cut the sentiment.

Cutting guide

In addition to cut pieces below, you need extra scraps of Basic White for stamping door, windows, trees, heart and Crumb Cake for paving slabs and Pool Party for roof and gingerbread house.

1. Faux gate fold mechanism – Basic White 5 ¼” x 11 ” (13.5 cm x 28 cm). Long side on top score one end at 1¾”, 3 ½” (4.5 cm, 9 cm ). Rotate c/s 180 degrees and score other end at 1 ¾”, 3 ½” (4.5 cm and 9 cm).
2. Cut Pool Party panels : 3 pieces 1 ¾” x 4″ (4.5 cm x 10 cm)
3. Sweetest Christmas 12″x 12″ (30.5 x 30.5 cm) DSP : 3 pieces 1 ⅝” x 3 ⅞” (4 cm x 9.5 cm)
4. Mat base Real Red : 4 ⅛” x 5 ⅜” (10.5 cm x 14 cm)
5. Card front Pool Party layer : 3 ¼ ” x 3¼ ” (8 cm x 8 cm)
6. Basic White mat layer : 3″ x 3″ (7.5 cm x 7.5 cm)
