Inlay Technique Valentine card with Sentimental Park

Today I have an inlay technique for a Valentine card using the Sentimental Park stamp set and dies. I covered the dies earlier in the week on my Top Tip Tuesday slot on my channel on YouTube HERE.

Valentine cards on the commercial platform usually have lots of big hearts and are loud and in your face with Happy Valentine’s Day plastered all over it but I went for the less obvious. On my card, I only have the two little heart shaped embellishments on the right side.

Inlay technique

An inlay technique is when you use a die to die cut an aperture in a piece of paper. Then using the same die, you die cut another piece in a different colour card stock or paper and adhere it back in the original piece of paper (inlay) so that parts of the original card stock will show through.

In my card, I’ve done it with the long thin stem and leaf die which I re-inserted into the original piece of paper in Shaded Spruce and you can see the blank spaces allow the Soft Succulent mat layer underneath show through.

Card Details

  1. Card base Sweet Sorbet : 8 ¼” x 5 ⅞” (21 cm x 14.5 cm)
  2. Mat layer 1 card front Soft Succulent : 2 ¼” x 5 ⅝” (5.5 cm x 14 cm)
  3. Regency Park DSP : 2″ x 5 ½” (5 cm x 13.5 cm) . Adhere adhesive sheet to back of pattern you want displayed. Die cut with Leaf and stem die before adhering to Soft Succulent mat layer.
  4. Shaded Spruce card stock – Adhere adhesive sheet to back of Shaded Spruce card stock before die cutting Leaf and stem die.
  5. Remove backing and adhere inlay die cut leaf and stem into the aperture of die cut pattern paper.
  6. Die cut the labels, one in Soft Succulent with the large plain die, and the other in Basic white with the smaller label with floral detail die.
  7. Die cut the the floral elements and shown in the video petal pink, sweet sorbet card stock.
  8. Use Soft Succulent Stampin’ Blends to partially colour the Basic White label berries and stamp “thanks” and “for” with Sweet Sorbet and Soft Succulent inks.
  9. Add the embellishments to the flowers on the floral label and use Wink of Stella to enhance the open work die cut flowers.
  10. Centre and adhere top Basic White label to Soft Succulent one and lastly add the heart embellishments as shown.

Inside card

  1. Adhere the left over die cut stem and leaf from the pattern paper on right side.
  2. Position multi-bloom outline floral image and stamp.
  3. Stamp off solid image and stamp over top of linear floral image.
  4. Stamp sentiments “all the wonderful things you do” from the Sentimental Park set and “Happy Valentine’s Day” from the Love for you stamp set.
