3D Bee Mine Altered Pillow Box

Today’s project is a 3D Bee Mine Altered Pillow box . The pillow boxes are white and is a square in shape. They have been pre-cut and scored and they come in a pack of 10. One of Stampin’ Up!’s samples shows a rectangular pillow box. You’ll find it on page 15 of the January-February 2024 Sale-a-bration brochure. I searched through our current catalogues and on the online exclusives but couldn’t find any rectangular pillow boxes. It transpires that the concept artist who created the sample had altered the square pillow box which is part of the Bee Mine Suite Collection in the new January-April 2024 mini catalogue.

I coloured the original box by dyeing it with Pool Party ink refill in a spritzer filled with 90% isopropyl alcohol and I chose this colour so that I could show case one of the Sale-a-bration free products which is this Crinkled Pool Party ribbon. The Pool Party bridging piece of card stock and the label uses the Timeless Arrangement Bundle and the sentiment “Happy Valentine’s Day” is from the Bee My Valentine stamp set.

Adding colour to pillow box

I’ve used rubbing alcohol or 90% isopropyl alcohol because it dries quicker, but you can simply use water if you don’t have any isopropyl alcohol. If you’re using isopropyl – ensure you’re working in a well ventilated environment and stay away from any open flames.

  1. Fill a spritzer with rubbing alcohol and add 10 drops of Pool Party Ink refill.
  2. Give it a good shake to mix and evenly distribute colour inside the spritzer.
  3. Protect your work surface, or do it over the kitchen sink. Ensure the nozzle is pointed at the pillow box and spritz to cover the entire box.
  4. Allow box to dry before you work on it. You can speed up the process by using a heat tool if you wish.

How to alter the Square pillow box

I think Stampin’ Up!’s sample recipe simple said “cut box in half” which included the finger holes. However having tried that method, I wasn’t happy with the result so I tweaked it. I cut both semi-circular finger holes away so that you get a nice straight edge.

  1. Orient the pillow box so that the finger hole cut outs are aligned in the cutting groove of your paper trimmer and cut.
  2. Rotate the other side of the pillow box 180 degrees and align the finger holes and cut.
  3. Cut a strip of Pool Party card stock 2 ¾” x 10 ½” (7 cm x 26.8 cm)
  4. Stamp on it with Timeless Arrangement stamps in Pool Party
  5. Adhere stamped strip to each side of the cut pieces of pillow box to form the rectangular pillow box.
  6. Basic White card stock : die cut label and floral/leaf elements from Timeless Arrangements bundle
  7. Tie Pool Party ⅝” crinkled ribbon (FREE with £45 order) around altered pillow box
  8. Stamp label with Bee My Valentine stamps and adhere to altered pillow box with dimensionals.
