Blending technique with Beach Day

Blending technique with Beach Day. I am so pleased that the Beach Day stamps and dies have carried over and is still available. I didn’t get a chance to play with them when it first appeared in the January-April 2024 mini.

Blending technique

There are lots of ways to blend colour but in my card today, I tore a strip off a post-it note to use as a mask. I wanted to reduce the area for the blending technique so I die cut a Deckled Circle in Basic White card stock. The Deckled Circles Dies is an Online Exclusive and comes in a set of 14 sizes. The smallest no. 1 measures 1″ up to the largest at no. 14 which measures 5 ¾”. Counting outwards from the smallest, I used no. 6.

When you use blending brushes to add your colour, work in a circular motion. Pick up ink with your brush and start from off the project on your grid paper working toward your project. By doing this, you minimise getting dark splotches of colour from when you first pick up ink on your blending brush.

New Staple color

The card base I used is a new staple called Beige. A Beige ink pad has also been introduced. I used both the card stock and ink for my card and also die cut the coconut tree trunk and sandcastle from Crumb Cake so you could see the difference between the two.

New So Swirly Embossing folder

This year, Stampin’ Up! introduced a new size embossing folder! It can emboss a half sheet of A4 card stock. It just about fits on the Die Cutting machine platform almost from end to end! You’ve seen me use it for cards in previous posts. I embossed the Beige mat layer with So Swirly – this is a standard thickness embossing folder so you need both platform 3 for the embossing sandwich.

Inside Card

I used the torn post-it notes to mask about 1″ (2.5 cm) above the bottom of the Basic White mat layer and used the blending technique to add some “sand”. Then I stamped and die cut the sandcastle and surf board. I used Shy Shamrock Stampin’ Blend Combo to colour the surf board.
