Fun Fold pop-up card – Silly Safari

Fun Fold pop-up card – Silly Safari. Continuing my love affair with this gorgeous Silly Safari stamp set this time with the giraffe. I’m making a fun fold pop-up card along the lines of one I made a few years ago with the Garden Greenhouse one which you can see HERE.

Materials used

This fun fold pop-up card was made with the Silly Safari stamp set. The card stock used are Timid Tiger, Darling Duckling and the inks Granny Apple Green, Garden Green and Timid Tiger. I also used the Florals In Bloom 12″x 12″ (30.5 x 30.5 cm) Designer Series Papers and Basic White for stamping with. To colour the giraffe, I used Stampin’ Blends in Bronze & Ivory, Crumb Cake, Pecan Pie and Timid Tiger. For embellishments I used Low Profile Sparkle Dots (new online exclusive in July), and the Darling Duckling Faux Linen ribbon.

Cutting guide

Pop-up card template
  • Left picture : cut Darling Duckling pop-up card base at 11″ x 4 ¼” (28 cm x 10.5 cm). Long side score at 1″, 2 ¾”, 3 ¾”, 5 ½”, 7 ¼”, 8 ¼” and 10″ (2.5 cm, 7 cm, 9.5 cm, 14 cm, 18.4 cm, 21 cm and 25.4 cm). Long side on top, align left edge on trimmer at 5 ½” (14 cm) and cut a slot from ¾” down to 3 ½” (2 cm down to 9 cm)
  • Middle picture : cut Timid Tiger 4 pieces mat layers 1 ½” x 4″ and 2 pieces at ¾” x 4″ (Timid Tiger 3.8 cm x 10.2 cm and 2 pieces 2 cm x 10.2 cm)
  • Right picture : cut DSP 3 pieces and 1 piece Basic White 1 ¼” x 3 ¾”(3.2 cm x 9.5 cm). Stamp the Basic White piece before adhering to Timid Tiger mat layer. Cut 2 pieces DSP ½” x 3 ¾” (1.3 cm x 9.5 cm)
Masking
  • Centre panel : Timid Tiger cut 1 piece 2 ¼” x 5 ½” (5.7 cm x 14 cm)
  • Basic White Mat : Cut 2 pieces at 2″ x 5 ¼” (5 cm x 14 cm). On one of the Basic White pieces, stamp giraffe 1″ (2.5 cm) from bottom in Tuxedo Black Memento ink.
  • Stamp giraffe on post-it note and cut just inside giraffe contour to create mask and adhere on stamped image on Basic White card stock. Stamp leaves with Garden Green and Granny Apple Green ink and remove mask. Leaves will appear behind giraffe. Remember to colour in giraffe with Stampin Blends, Ivory, Crumb Cake, Timid Tiger and Pecan Pie. (not pictured here) and adhere to the Timid Tiger Centre panel.
Back centre piece
  • On remaining Basic White piece, stamp the leaves and adhere to back of the same Timid Tiger centre panel.
  • Mark 1 ⅛” (2.9 cm) centre point of centre panel card, and at 2 ⅛” (5.4 cm) on the card base.
  • Tuck 1″ (2.5 cm) panel face up and apply tear n’ tape. Also apply tear n’ tape to centre panel as shown above in the picture on the right.
  • Remove backing tape, align centre points, and adhere centre pop-up card to base of card.
  • Colour the giraffe first before tucking the opposite 1″ (2.5 cm) panel under and aligning with bottom of card to glue on top as pictured on the right.
  • Once the pop-up card has been sealed, this is what it should look like from the side.
  • Picture on the right shows the back of the centre pop-up panel.

Finishing touches

  • Attach a trio of Low Profile Sparkle Dots at the top of the card. Best way to do it is close the card because you don’t want the dots to interfere with the sliding and closing of the card through the slot.
  • With card in closed position, tie a flat knot with Darling Duckling ⅜” (1 cm) Faux Linen ribbon.

This card looks complicated, but as you can see, it really isn’t. I hope it will inspire you to have a go. It’s a great fun fold to re-visit time and again!
