Magnetic Pop-up Slider card

Magnetic Pop-up Slider card. Do you love interactive cards? Horror of horrors, the Cute as a Bug suite from the Jan-May catalogue has been in my “in-tray” all this time and it’s only now that I’ve actually got round to looking at it. I’m so glad as I write this, (May) that it is still available online.

I thought it would be fun to make a pop-up slider card with this bundle. In addition, I’ve used the Cute as a Bug 12″ x 12″ (30.5 x 30.5 cm) Designer Series Papers to decorate the card.

Cutting guide

I designated different colours and alphabets for each “cut” to make it easier to follow.

1. Card Base : Place A4 sheet on your trimmer with long side at the top and cut it in half so that it measures 5 ¾” x 8 ¼” (14.5 cm x 21 cm). Fold it in half. This will form the card base “A” in blue.
2. Cut “B” in red from remaining half and trim so that it measures 5 ¼” x 4 ⅛” (13.5 cm x 10.5 cm). On the long side score at ⅝” and 2 ¾” (1.5 cm and 7 cm). Rotate it so short side is at the top and the ⅝” (1.5 cm) score line is toward the top. Partially score at ¾” (2 cm) on each side and cut down to first score line (“B”) then cut between both cut lines in the middle.
3. “C” in green and “D” in purple are cut from the last A4 quarter. “C” measures 3 ¾” x 4 ⅛” (9.5 x 10.5 cm) and “D” measures 3″ x 2 ⅛” (7.5 cm x 5.5 cm)

FYI “A” is the card base, “B” and “C” houses the slider mechanism and also where you attach the magnets and “D” is the slider mechanism where you can attach your surprise feature (in this sample, it’s a caterpillar.

Cutting the DSP pieces

1. Card base : Pattern 1 – W 4″ x H 3″ (10.2 cm x 7.5 cm). Adhere to top half of card base.
2. Front of “C” : Pattern 2 – W 4″ x H 3″(10.2 cm x 7.5 cm). Adhere to front of “C” -slider piece.
3. “D” slider mechanism : Pattern 2 – 2″ x 2″ (5 cm x 5 cm). Align with top and two sides leaving an even border on all 3 sides and adhere.
4. Middle section on fully extended pop-out card : W 4″ x H 2″ (10.2 cm x 5 cm). Adhere directly to middle section.
5. Bottom section on fully extended pop-out card : W 4″ x H 2 ⅜” (10.2 cm x 6 cm). Stamp greeting with Basic Black Hybrid ink. Ink up grass and flower with Old Olive ink and stamp along bottom right justified. Stamp trio of bugs on Basic White and die cut with corresponding die. Colour with Pecan Pie ink and blender pen and adhere on top of grass, then adhere to card.

Elements for slider and fussy cut piece

1. Die cut larger mushroom from Sweet Bugs dies and colour with Crumb Cake stampin’ blends. Apply adhesive on the back of mushroom and insert inside slider and adhere.
2. Stamp caterpillar with Basic Black Hybrid ink and colour with Stampin’ Blends and die cut with corresponding die from Sweet Bugs dies and adhere on top of mushroom.
3. Fussy cut the butterfly from Cute as a Bug 12″x 12″ (30.5 x 30.5 cm) DSP and adhere with dimensionals in the top right corner. Ensure it is still visible when card is closed.

Front of card extras

1. Petal Pink piece cut at ¾” x 4″ (2 cm x 10.2 cm)
2. Wrap Old Olive specialty rick rack ribbon round petal pink piece and secure at the back with double sided tape. Adhere to front of lower half of card with dimensionals. Thread a short length of rick rack through front and tie a knot – it will curl up so secure with glue dots.
3. Finishing touches – use Moody Palette Glossy Dots.

Inside card

1. Cut Basic White 3 ⅞” x 5 ½” (9.8 cm x 14 cm).
2. Stamp the Lily of the Valley image in Old Olive and use Old Olive Stampin’ blends to colour it in and draw freehand some grass.
3. Fussy cut the pair of dancing bugs and adhere below the Lily of the Valley stamped image to complete card.
