Advanced Blending Aurora Borealis

Hello, hello! I had originally scheduled this Advanced Blending Aurora Borealis post for the first Sunday in February. It occurred to me afterwards, that in fact I only had a small window to publish Valentine projects so consequently, I rescheduled this post for another Sunday. Who knew that it would be so long down the line!

Advanced blending techniques

I’ve been using my blending tools like there’s no tomorrow! There are so many different ways to use these brushes just to add a touch of background colour or with an emboss resist technique .

I’d set myself a challenge. Could I create the Aurora Borealis with my blending tools? After several attempts, here is the result.

I used the Snow Front photopolymer stamp set to help me set the scene. To create the mountains in the distance, I stamped in Tuxedo Black Memento ink by using just the edge of the stamp.

All the rest was achieved through using various masking methods to mimic brush strokes and shafts of light hues. Whoever would have thought it possible with blending brushes! Maybe a bit advanced for a beginner, but with practice, anyone can do it! These blending brushes make it easy!

Owing to the time it took to create this card, I decided not to do a video tutorial on it. I’m sharing it in my Sunday blog post instead. The process went through several transformations and a lot of my efforts ended in the bin before this final one. Quite frankly, I’m not sure I can duplicate an exact copy! Perhaps someone else with more artistic flair would have produced the same with less effort in half the time and with more panache! Anyway, I’m chuffed I completed my own challenge and can now put it to bed!

Stampin’ Up! has a new Reward System beginning early April 2025. Customers now must have an online account and need to opt in to earn 10% of their qualifying commissionable product purchases to redeem as Stampin’ Rewards on future orders. A qualifying purchase must meet the minimum threshold requirement on commissionable products. Be aware that Stampin’ Rewards have an expiration date. They need not be redeemed all at once. Stampin’ Up!’s system tracks them and the rewards expiring first will be used first when redeemed. You can check the Rewards Dashboard to help you keep track of Rewards Expiration Date Information. Please note the new Stampin’ Reward System cannot use Rewards toward the purchase of a Starter Kit as the Starter Kit has non-commissionable items in it. The Host Code will become obsolete.
