I chose water colouring for Tech 4 Stampers Blog hop in February. The theme is “New Beginnings”. I’m really pants at getting my paints out (read ink pads and water painters). My new beginning is to make a concerted effort to do more water coloured projects in 2022!
The Tech 4 Stampers is a monthly subscription group run by Louise Sims. She mentors and enables members to understand IT jargon and equips them with a fountain of Technical knowledge to build or manage their own websites. It takes the mystery out of “tech” and I’ve certainly grown in confidence thanks to her expertise, patience and guidance. Not only that, I’ve met and made new friends with my fellow “Techs” and love the camaraderie within the group.
Finding “mojo”
My inspiration has come from the “New Horizons” 6″x 6″ (15.2 x 15.2 cm) Designer Series Papers. All the designs feature water coloured images so I had plenty of “templates” to mimic! Truth be known, if left to my own devices, I have no flair for free hand painting. On the other hand, if you’re simply copying the concept artist who painted these images in the first place, you can! How? Read on!
By the way, the New Horizon DSP hadn’t reached our warehouse for simply ages, but they are currently available. If you haven’t got them yet, be quick. I can see them going out of stock as they are absolutely stunning!
The inks I used are Evening Evergreen, Old Olive and Polished Pink. Use acrylic blocks to pick up the ink from each ink pad. The acrylic blocks will act as a palette. This keeps the lids of your ink pads clean. Alternatively, you can squeeze the lid to pick up ink and use the lids as your palette.
The details
- Cut an Evening Evergreen card base 4-1/8″ x 11-3/4″ (10.5 cm x 29 cm) and a mat layer 4-1/8” x 2-5/8″ (10.5 cm x 7 cm)
- Choose a sheet of New Horizons DSP for your background layer and trim it down to 5-5/8″ x 4″ (14 cm x 10 cm) and adhere to card front.
- Cut Fluid 100 Water color paper 4″ x 2-1/2″ (10 cm x 6.5 cm).
- Place the Fluid 100 water color paper in the centre of the card to ascertain where the continuation of the scene is.
- Start laying down the continuation of the scene by using the finest water painter to do this while the paper is still dry.
- Stamp the floral image from On the Horizon stamp set in Old Olive.
- Now you can start water colouring! Squeeze the barrel to add drops of water to wet the paper and you’ll see the ink spread.
- Stamp the sentiment on a scrap of Evening Evergreen card stock with Versamark Ink. Sprinkle white embossing powder on sentiment and set embossing powder with Heat Tool.
- Punch out the sentiment with the Banners Pick a Punch.
- Align and adhere the water coloured masterpiece to the Evening Evergreen Mat layer leaving an even border all round.
- Attach dimensionals to mat layer. Align the scene with the New Horizons DSP on card front before adhering to card front.
- Also put dimensionals on punched label. Align straight edge of label to right edge of Water coloured layer.
- Attach 2021-2023 In Color Jewels (Polished Pink) to flowers.
Inside card
- Cut Basic White card stock 3-3/4″ x 5-1/2″ (9.5 cm x 14 cm).
- Stamp “floral” image in bottom right corner.
- Add Polished Pink “flowers” – I simply used dots to achieve this.
Being water colour, no two cards will ever be the same. That’s why it’s fun to watch which way it will go!
