Christmas Countdown week 9 – Festive Cheer. The Festive Cheer is an online exclusive which first appeared in July 26. I combined it with the Starry Night hot foil bundle.
Here are two card ideas – one using the Starry Night hot foil die as a background, and the other using the Starry Night stamp to create a stamped background. The one on the left is in Misty Moonlight, and the one on the right is the stamped one made with Cloud Cover card stock.

Misty Moonlight Hot foiled Starry Night card Cutting guide
*If you’re new to hot foiling, please watch Stampin’ Up!’s video on Hot Foiling and my tips to prevent over foiling at the bottom of the post.

Front of card
- Card base Misty Moonlight card stock: 5 ¾” x 8 ¼” (14.5 cm x 21 cm) folded in half
- Silver Foil frame : cut a ½” (1.3 cm) frame from a piece of silver foil measuring 3 ½” x 5″ (9 cm x 12.7 cm)
- Misty Moonlight layer : 3 ¼” x 4 ¾” (8.2 cm x 12 cm)
- *Cloud Cover layer – hot foil with silver hot foil using the Starry Night hot foil die.
- Attach adhesive sheet to the back of a scrap of Misty Moonlight and die cut 2 pine sprigs and the word NOEL from Festive Cheer dies.
- Adhere adhesive sheet to the back of a scrap of Pecan Pie and die cut 2 branches from Festive Cheer dies.
- Silver Foil scrap – die cut an odd number of berry trio clusters.
Inside card
- Basic White layer : cut at 3 ⅞” x 5 ½” (9.8 cm x 14 cm)
- Stamp stars, the “string”, ornament toppers and one of the ornaments plus greeting in Smoky Slate ink.
- Use Misty Moonlight for stamping the other ornament.
Festive Cheer Cloud Cover and Starry Night card
I used the remnant of the silver foil left by cutting the frame for the Misty Moonlight card for this Cloud Cover card.

Front of card
- Card base Cloud Cover card stock : 5 ¾” x 8 ¼” (14.5 cm x 21 cm) folded in half.
- Silver foil measuring 3″ x 5″ (7.6 cm x 12.7 cm)
- Cloud Cover layer : 2 ⅞” x 4 ⅞” (7.3 cm x 12.4 cm) – stamp with Starry Night background with Cloud Cover ink.
- Stamp “deck the halls” in bottom right corner as pictured. I used the Stamp Positioner tool to stamp “deck the halls” repeatedly with Cloud Cover ink for the depth of colour.
- On scrap of Basic White, stamp the ornaments with Cloud Cover ink and die cut with corresponding dies fro Festive Cheer dies.
- Apply adhesive sheet on back of Silver Foil scrap and die cut the ornament tops and “string” for hanging ornaments and the bow with Festive Cheer dies.
Inside card
Because the Cloud Cover is a light coloured card stock, I omitted the Basic White layer and stamped directly inside the card
- Stamp the greeting first with Cloud Cover ink.
- Then use the star stamp to stamp randomly around the greeting as pictured.
I hope you enjoyed both these simply put together cards. When you’re making such a lot of Christmas cards, less is more because bulky cards cost more to post and fun folds tend to take more time and expense to produce.

Product ListHow to prevent Over-foiling tip
From my own experience using the Stampin’ Hot Foil System, I had better results by following the instructions that came with the Stampin’ Hot Foil System. I added a thin piece of copy paper on top of the card stock before placing the green Hot Foil Shim on. This helps protect the shim from picking up any excess foil in the process.
- After the red light goes solid red, put your hot foil die on to the heated surface with flat side down. Press the white timer button. The platform beeps and a yellow light flashes while the die heats up (approximately 1 ½ minutes). The white timer button and the red light stays lit and when ready, the platform beeps again and the green light turns on. All lights will be lit.
- Next build your sandwich by placing these items on the die in order: Foil (shiny side down)>Card stock/or desired material> thin piece of copy paper (to prevent foil from getting on to your shim)>Hot Foil Shim>Hot Foil Spacer.
- Unplug the cord from the platform and carefully remove it from the silicone platform station, keeping the sandwich stable to prevent foil transfer. Place it on the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine and slowly run it through without reversing as the die may shift and smudge the card stock.
Stampin’ Hot Foil System
This is a new tool by Stampin’ Up! with special Hot Foil Dies. If you missed the post introducing the machine and information all about it, here’s a video to explain how the system works. Please be aware this machine is designed to fit Stampin’ Up!’s larger Stampin’ Cut & Emboss machine and was tested with their own line of products. It would render the 1 year warranty on the Stampin’ Hot Foil System null and void if you use it on non-Stampin’ Up! machines which may not fit.
Also be sure you’re ordering the machine with the right plug for your market. Foils and dies have to be purchased separately.
If you purchase the Stampin’ Hot Foil System before Jan 4, 2027, it will also include the Metallic Magic Craft Class for free. The class will cost £28.00 to purchase when the free class offer ends.
