Five Simple cards – In your own words

Eek! I nearly forgot to feature “In your own words” HOST Stamp set during Sale-a-bration ! This too can be earned for free subject to a qualifying order of £275. Gather your friends and when your collective order reaches this magic number, excluding shipping/handling, you’ll be able to select this stamp set as part of your Host reward.

Sale-a-bration ending soon

It suddenly dawned on me that there’s only 11 days left of Sale-a-bration which finishes on 30 September. To my dismay, I realised that I hadn’t even opened my free pack of Beautifully Penned 12″ x 12″ (30.5 x 30.5 cm) Designer Series Papers! Not only that, the Host Set “In your own words” hadn’t seen any ink either!

Consequently, I’ve had to reschedule my posts for Sundays to make room for Sale-a-bration projects before it expires! To make up for lost time, I have 5 cards to share in the one post instead of just the one.

Combining Sale-a-bration goodies

I have used the Host stamp set in conjuntion with the gorgeous Beautifully Penned Designer Series Paper. In additon, to showcase the sentiments from “In Your Own Words” I’ve used a variety of label dies. For the card below, I used the Color & Contour Bundle. The card base is in Basic Black cut at 4-1/8″ x 11-3/4″ and folded in half. The Petal Pink mat layer is 5-5/8″ x 3-7/8″ and the patterned pieces were cut 1/4″ smaller in 2 halves allowing a border to show through in the middle.

So Saffron (yellow) card

The card at the bottom depicts So Saffron elements. It showcases the Hand-penned Petals bundle. I simply cut a piece of Beautifully Penned DSP 5-1/2″ x 3-3/4″ and cut it diagonally. One half was used for the card at the bottom below, and the other for the card on the left top row.

I die cut two scalloped edges in black and some floral accents in So Saffron. There isn’t a die which will cut the flowers whole, so I placed the die on Basic White card stock and traced round the edge of the die and fussy cut it. The So Saffron flower accents were adhered on top and I added some pearls to the flower centre.

The sentiment was stamped in So Saffron along a strip of Basic White card in between the Basic Black scalloped edges. On the lower portion of the card, I coloured in the floral images with So Saffron Stampin’ Blends combo. The leaves were die cut in Granny Apple Green.

Stitched Stars Dies

It seemed appropriate to use the Stitched Stars Dies for the top card in the top row on the left as one of the sentiments from the”In Your Own Words” stamp set says “Perhaps the stars are openings where our loved ones shine down to let us know they are happy”. I’m so glad they didn’t retire this set of dies, although the stamp set which coordinated with it has.

I simply attached an adhesive sheet to the back of a silver foil sheet and die cut the swirly stars. The ones which pop out were re-used elsewhere on the card as accents.

Merry Merlot card

I wanted to show just how versatile the Beautifully Penned papers are. As it is all in Basic Black and white, you can use it with any colour palette you choose.

Choosing a darker colour for my matt layer allows me to white emboss the greeting. In the landscape orientation, I could simply cover half of the card with patterned paper and leave the other half exposed. To cover up the join, I added some Gray Granite shimmer ribbon.

I used the Hand-penned Petal bundle to stamp and die cut the floral accent. The inks are Tuxedo Black Memento ink, Merry Merlot, Soft Sea Foam.

Stitched So Sweetly Petal Pink card

When you stamp on coloured card stock, the ink might be a little uneven. It takes two, or even three stamping repetitive times for the ink to properly “soak” in. For jobs like this, I always use my Stamparatus, Stampin’ Up!’s own stamp positioning tool.

Another way of adding interest to the paper is by colouring in the flowers on the patterned paper to coordinate with the colour of the mat layer as well as the label.

I added some gingham ribbon and rhinestone accents to “soak” up the space at the top and bottom of the label.

Well, that’s all for today. These papers are truly versatile and as you can see, I’ve created quite a variety of cards just by adding colour or by cutting them into different sizes and shapes.

I’ve held a couple of cards back to share on next Sunday’s post. They use the same papers, but feature some gorgeous new stamp sets, so watch out for those.

Have a lovely weekend and some happy crafting down time!

Stampin’ hugs!
