Diamond z-fold – Desert Details

Today’s fancy fold is a diamond z-fold using the Desert Details bundle in the January-April 2023 mini. This is a slimline card designed to fit into Stampin’ Up!’s slimline envelop.

Ever since I acquired this bundle, I’ve been itching to have a go and finally the day has arrived. This bundle is from the Delicate Desert Suite on pages 42-44 of the January-April 2023 mini. The patterned papers or DSP (Designer Series Paper) is stunning. There is also a Dry Brushed Metallic 12″x 12″ (30.5 x 30.5 cm) specialty DSP pack with 4 sheets of 12″x 12″ papers, 2 each of 2 single sided designs.

Diamond z-fold

This card has a wow-factor and is so easy to make. There are smaller versions of this type of fold that fit in a C6 envelop, but I wanted to try a slimline version and see how it would work. To create the z-fold, fold back the card front in half. The diamond pieces are simply squares of card stock turned on its side.

I added two extra diamonds for addressing the recipient and to say who it’s from.

When the card is closed, they are hidden from view (picture on the left). The picture on the right shows the layout inside the card.

Cutting details

1. Card base : Cajun Craze cut at 7″ x 8 ½” (18 cm x 21.5 cm). Short side on top score at 1 ¾”. 3 ½ “ (4.5 cm, 9 cm)
2. Front of card : Cut 2 squares (diamonds) Cajun Craze 2 ⅜” x 2 ⅜” (6 cm x 6 cm)
3. Inside card : Cut 3 squares (diamonds) Cajun Craze 2 ⅛” x 2 ⅛” (5.5 cm x 5.5 cm)

Designer Series Paper

1. Front panel card base : “Delicate Desert 12″ x 12″ (30.5 cm x 30.5 cm) DSP -1 piece cut at 1 ½” x 8 ¼” (4 cm x 21 cm)
2. Inside card base : “Delicate Desert 12″ x 12″ (30.5 cm x 30.5 cm) DSP – 3 ¼” x 8 ¼” (8.5 cm x 21 cm)
3. Front of card “diamonds”: Dry Brushed Metallic 12″x 12″ (30.5 x 30.5 cm) SDSP – cut 2 pieces 2 ⅛” x 2 ⅛” (5.5 cm x 5.5 cm)
4. Inside card diamonds : Basic White cut 2 pieces 1 ⅞” x 1 ⅞” (5 cm x 5 cm) and 1 piece with Dry Brushed Metallic 12″x 12″ (30.5 x 30.5 cm) SDSP at 1 ⅞” x 1 ⅞” (5 cm x 5 cm).

Pop up mechanism

1. Cut 1 piece Cajun Craze 3″ x 2 ½” (8 cm x 6.5 cm)
2. Long side score ¾”, 1 ½”, 2 ¼” (2 cm, 4 cm, 6 cm)
