Mondrian art technique – Cheerful Daisies

I applied Piet Mondrian’s art technique to a clean, simple card with the Cheerful Daisies bundle. There is a beginner’s version, from clean and simple, to a casual version adding additional cardstock, and the avid crafter’s version which includes the use of extra dies and/or stamps.

Beginner’s card

The card base for all three versions is in Basic Black. In the beginner’s version, I used a pencil and ruler to draw ⅛” (0.5 cm) border lines around the feature Basic White centre square measuring 1 ⅞” x 1 ⅞” (4.8 cm x 4.8 cm) . I cut along the lines to create a Mondrian effect around the centre square. Then I stamped the daisy in the centre of the Basic White piece, adding a mask so that I could stamp the leaves so that they gave the illusion of being behind the daisy. Adhere the cut pieces around the square in the order in which you cut them. Stamp the sentiment in the bottom right corner.

Casual crafter

In this version, I added a Wild Wheat mat layer measuring 2 ⅛” x 2 ⅛” (5.8 cm x 5.8 cm) and used the Lemon Lolly remnant to adhere on top. Then I stamped the daisy and leaves on scraps of Basic White card stock and fussy cut them. Both the petals of the daisy and leaves were curled with a bone folder. I used dimensionals to attach them to the Lemon Lolly square. The sentiment was stamped separately and also fussy cut and adhered with dimensionals. Finally, I added some embellishments.

Avid crafter

From the set of Stylish Shapes frames, I used the 3rd largest stitched square to die cut the aperture on the Lemon Lolly mat layer. This time I used the trimmer to cut the Mondrian pieces. Please refer to video to see how I cut it. I also used the Cheerful Daisies Dies to cut the leaves and daisy.
