Whale Watching – adventure of a lifetime

When I saw the Whale Watching stamp set in the September-December 2023 mini catalogue it reminded me of an adventure of a lifetime. Soon after my hubby’s retirement, we hired a RV (Recreation Vehicle) aka motor-home in America and did a mammoth road trip from Utah where we picked up the RV to San Francisco where we returned it.

One of the things to do on our bucket list was to go Whale Watching at Monterey Bay. The excitement was palpable, all our fellow whale watchers with cameras and some with telephoto lenses waited and watched with bated breath for a whale pod to show up. I never did manage to capture them above water or “lob-tailing” but managed to catch its tail fluke. Something is better than nothing and it truly was an adventure of a lifetime!

So when I saw this stamp set, I just had to have it. It also goes well with the Waves of Inspiration stamp set and Waves dies. You can see the post and the z-fold card I made HERE. It was part of an early release Waves of the Ocean Collection from the 2022-2023 Annual catalogue and has carried over to the current catalogue, but no longer as a bundle.

Card details

1. Card base cut in Boho Blue : 4 ⅛” x 11 ¾” (10.5 cm x 29 cm)
2. Front of card mat layer #1 Basic White : ¼ of A4 sheet same size as card front. Use blending brushes to create seascape with Boho Blue, Lemon Lolly, Calypso Coral, Tuxedo Black Memento ink. Colour cliffs using Stampin’ Blend combos in Smoky Slate, Mossy Meadow.
3. Basic White scrap for layer #2 to stamp and fussy cut Whale in Tuxedo Black Memento ink
4. Stamp wave in Boho Blue on Basic White card stock and fussy cut.
5. Die cut wave with adhesive backed holographic paper and adhere to stamped wave.
6. Top layer Boho Blue ¼ of A4 sheet same size as card front. Use the Country Corner dies to die cut aperture then emboss this layer with Cheery Patterns Embossing Folders.

Finishing touches

1. Stamp birthday greeting in Boho Blue from Waves of Inspiration stamp set on Basic White card stock and die cut with label die from Waves Dies.
2. Attach a short length of Boho Blue jute from 2023-2024 In Color Jute Trim – trim off one end so that it is line with edge of card on bottom right.
3. Die cut clouds in Basic White with their respective accents. Use blending brush to add a dash of Boho Blue to accent die cuts. Adhere to corresponding clouds.

Inside card

1. Cut a piece of Basic White cardstock :  3 ¾” x 5 ½” (9.5 cm x 14 cm)
2. Stamp the small whale and water ripples in Tuxedo Black Memento ink
3. Colour in the “sea” with Boho Blue Stampin’ Blends.
