Extra card surprise – Fruitful Blessings

Hi – an extra card surprise using the Fruitful Blessings bundle and also the Countryside Corner dies today. What looks like a tag on top of the card front holds a surprise and conceals a hidden greeting. I’m pretty chuffed with how it turned out. This is the second, improved prototype so I hope you like it too.

Often when something new arrives, we use it to death like the Countryside Corner dies. Then something else new comes along and we forget about the “old” and move on to the new. I am SO guilty of that and it’s nice to re-visit older items in your stash to combine it with that something “new”.

I’ve said before that Wild Wheat isn’t one of favourite colours, so what better time to use it than during the autumn. To tone down the colour, I’ve combined it with Copper Clay as it also picks out the colours in the All About Autumn 6″x 6″ Specialty DSP. At time of writing, the papers were still “currently unavailable” and Stampin’ Up! has said it would hopefully be back in stock in the week of 31 October. Just keep checking back. This pack has proved so popular they sell out so quickly.

Card within a card

Did you know that you can use your dies to create cards? You simply cut a length of card double the size of your die with a little extra on both length and width to accommodate the die. Fold the card stock in half, then place card stock so that the cutting edge of your die covers 3 sides but not the 4th cutting edge. By not placing card stock over this 4th cutting edge, the die doesn’t cut all the way through and you end up with a folded card. Make sure you secure the die over the card stock with low tack tape to keep die in position.

How to keep the card on the front closed

I made a little ribbon loop on the front of the mini Countryside Corners card. Before I adhered it to the embossed Copper Clay layer on the card front, I folded a length of ribbon in half and concealed it underneath the mini card. You can then loop the ends through the loop on the mini card’s card front. By doing it this way, it keeps the mini card closed in order to display the card. The weight of the mini card in the open position de-stabilises the card and makes it topple over, hence the need to keep it closed.

Cutting guide

Note: Countryside Corner dies have a nest of 6 dies plus a small double flag die. No. 1 being the smallest, you need dies no. 4 & 5.

1. Main card base Wild Wheat : 4 ⅛” x 11 ¾” (10.5 cm x 29.8 cm)
2. *Countryside Corners mini card Wild Wheat use Countryside Corners die No. 5 : 5” x 10” (13 cm x 25.5 cm). *When cutting this mini card, remember to fold card stock first, then place card stock shy of the 4th short corner so it does not cut all the way through.
3. Copper Clay Mat layer #1 : 2 pieces 3 ¾” x 5 ½” (9.5 cm x 14 cm)
4. Basic White inside card Mat layer #1 : 3 ⅝” x 5 ⅜”(9 cm x 13.5 cm)
5. Inside Countryside Corners mini card : die cut with No. 4 die Basic White piece
6. Scraps of Daffodil Delight, Copper Clay, Mossy Meadow and Wild wheat and Basic White to die cut corn, husk, and leaves
