Emboss Resist technique card

Today I have an Emboss Resist technique card. The stamps in the Hello Beautiful photopolymer stamp set in the January-June 2022 mini catalogue are perfect for trying out this technique. Emboss Resist has been around since time immemorial. It was one of the techniques I learnt when I first started my foray into stamping.

First you stamp an image in Versamark ink. It is a slow drying ink and provides a sticky surface for the embossing powders to stick to. Heat is applied using a crafting Heat Tool to melt the embossing powder and this adds texture to your project. Allow it to cool and set.

Once set, you can add a colour wash or stamp over it and where the embossing is, the ink will not be absorbed. This process is called Emboss Resist.

Finding inspiration

Stampin’ Up!’s “Hello Beautiful” photopolymer stamp set comprises solid images which look like abstract brush strokes. It also has stamps which look like leaf shapes, small floral images and an assortment of dots, crosses and doodles. Also included are some sentiments in a mixture of fonts.

Looking at the imagery of this stamp set, you may be flummoxed at how you could possibly create something cohesive or pretty with these blobs!

To find inspiration, refer to the Abstract Beauty 4″ x 6″ specialty Designer Series papers. You can use the designs on the papers as a springboard to make your own. A top tip is to keep a limited colour palette, less is more, as the saying goes. There’s no hard and fast rule, you can use more colours if you wish, it’s a question of personal taste.

Here’s a video tutorial to see how it came together. Both the imperial and metric measurements are included in the subtitles.

The 4″ x 6″ size is perfect for using with the Abstract Beauty Cards & Envelops, but will also fit the Assorted Basic White Memories & More cards and envelops pack too.

In a previous post I shared HERE – I’d used the smaller size cards as “thank you” cards. I wanted to eke out the papers, so cut them in half to make 2 small cards with each sheet instead.
